811: Delko for the Defense
Original air date: December 14, 2009
Episode Recap: A woman is murdered in her own home and the killer is on the run. Calleigh, Ryan and Horatio give chase and catch a suspect, who turns out to be a "homeless" man named Zach Finley. Eric returns as the expert witness for the defense in the case when he is recruited by a hotshot defense attorney who basically pulled his name out of a hat of former CSIs. Eric is sent to the scene to record everything that the team does, and follows them into the lab as well, video documenting everything- with some hostility from Frank, and playful jabs from Ryan. The evidence soon points to there being two suspects working together, with one raping the victim and the other killing her. A linked case is also found where the victim was literally saved by the bell- her doorbell when children stopped by, selling candy door to door. The episode ends with Eric following up on a suggestion from Calleigh to think about applying for the job of forensic expert for the state attorney's office.
Body count: 1
Victim(s): Summer Davenport; Ellen Scheffield (previous case; was only raped due to the fact that the attacker(s) were scared off by kids selling candy door to door)
Suspect(s): Zack Finley, Jason Porter
Whodunit: Jason Porter raped the victim, Zack Finley killed her
Path of evidence:
Personnel issues: We find out that Eric was in Puerto Rico since he left CSI...and apparently the only person on the team that knew was Calleigh. Calleigh tells Eric that the state's attorney (prosecutor) is looking for someone to serve as expert witness in trials, and that he should apply. Their personal relationship, however, is still slightly undecided.
From the field:
- The victim's blood on a knife from her kitchen, a blood pool with scuff marks in it, a bra found in the lining of a sofa, video recordings of the rapes
From the morgue:
- Semen (proof of sexual assault), multiple stab wounds
From the lab:
Calleigh: What are you going to do, go back to Puerto Rico?
Eric: You know, I love it there, but, uh, I missed Miami.
Calleigh: Miami missed you.
Ryan: Hey, Delko, want to come over and take a picture of me doing this? Make sure I'm doing it right?
Eric: It's not about you making mistakes, Wolfe. It's about how I interpret what you find.
Horatio: Mr. Wolfe, Eric has every right to be here. We have nothing to hide.
Ryan: Yeah, but H, while he's watching us, who's watching him?
Eric: That's really funny.
Eric: Look, I know I don't have to say it, but, uh, thanks for all the calls.
Horatio: You're still family, Eric.
Calleigh: There's our expert witness.
Eric: I'm sure you heard Tripp thinks I went over to the dark side.
Calleigh: What do you think?
Eric: I didn't go looking for the job; Villani got my name off a list of former CSIs.
Calleigh: But you said yes.
Eric: Seemed like a good chance to help people.
