Held CaptiveThis is a featured page

Lieutenant Horatio Caine is basically the god of Miami. (Besides the mayor). With his carrot top hair, almost invisible freckles and his ice blue eyed baby face, he has protected “his” city and his lab for twelve years. But today, he can’t. The mob was running, and too fast.

That’s when it hit him, he knew what was going to happen, and there was no way he could stop it. He met up with his team as fast as he could. First he saw Calleigh Duquesne, a pretty blonde lady with hazel eyes that can cut you like a knife. He was lucky to have her on his team, she would never hide anything from him, nor would she disappoint him. He could see a sense of panic on her face when he walked over to her. “When did they hit? And how long have they been here?” Horatio asked. Calleigh looked at him in a how did you know? Kind of way. Then she would say it, “How did you know?” “Ive got my resources.” Caine replied. That’s all he would say. “Horatio, we are your resources, now seriously, how did you know?” This time she said it with a little bit more worry in her voice with a tad of irritation. Caine could sense it. He replied in a sad but serious way, “My brother was killed over it three years ago, they knew he was after them, and terrified I would finish it for him after he passed, so now they decided to act before I could, but there was nothing I could have done to prevent it in time, but now, I can stop it from going any further.” He continued, “A great man once told me, you can watch over people, but you can’t make choices for them. Calleigh looked at him with a smirk, “That’s you who said that.” “I know”, (slipping on his shades) “I know.” Then Horatio went to go re part his HUMMER. Eric Delko walked up to Calleigh, “What’s up with H?” he asked. Not seeming to notice the chaos in the lab. “He’s a little upset; don’t push it with him today.” Eric didn’t dare mess with his boss. To tell the truth, he was scared of him. He was also scared of easily disappointing him. He always dreaded to not hear him say. “Good Work.” But to just look at him with a disappointed look on Caine’s face. Although he would rarely say that, it still worried him. Eric was a Cuban himself, tall, handsome, and a major womanizer. He would flirt with almost every woman he’d run into at the super market. Calleigh thought this was funny. Horatio Caine returned from his HUMMER ordeal.

He walked up behind Delko startling the poor man without even trying to. “Jesus Lieutenant!” Horatio started laughing to himself, “What? Did I scare you?” Horatio said forcing out a smile. “No… really Sherlock? Looks like you found a clue.” Eric thought this but just gave Caine a weird look. Keeping that to himself, it was like Horatio read his mind, “You know, I’m just trying to make you a little less tense in this situation.” Eric replied, “Your are the one that needs a little cheering up.” Eric was scared that he said that. Caine replied cocking one eyebrow and tilting his head, “Oh? How so?” “I heard what’s happening; I’ll get on it as soon as I can sir.” Delko said with a little bit of panic about what his boss was thinking. But to a shock Caine said this, “No need, it’s my mess and I need to clean it up.” Even though Horatio knew it was his brothers, but he didn’t dwell on it too much.

Tim Speedle walked up to all of them, but directing his position towards his boss. “The suspects name is Toni Ciccolini, One of his members is in there and has four hostages, and one of them is our own. This ticked Horatio off; in fact, ‘ticked’ was an understatement. No matter who you were, no one messed with his team, his CSIs. No one. Horatio walked around the building checking the different exits for anybody trying to escape the suspect. Toni’s member kept them in Calleigh’s firearms lab, the only part of the building that had a camera that wasn’t working. Then his cell phone rang. “Horatio Caine.” He said sternly answering his cell. “I have four of your little peoples.” “Give me one hundred grand and a chopper and I’ll let them go, even your precious M.E.” The man said. “You probably think I’m a wack job,” before he finished Caine bumped in, “I don’t think you’re a wack job, I know why you are doing this.” “Oh really? You do? Why don’t we have a talk? Come in here Caine and you’ve got five minutes or a hostage dies.” Then the phone line went dead. Horatio walked up to his team, or at least part of his team saying, “I’m going in.”His team looked at him in shock. “You can’t, I won’t let you. We almost lost you once; our team can’t afford to almost lose you again.” Calleigh said. She had a ‘thing’ for him but he also pointed the same thing out about Horatio himself. They were only four years apart, her being younger than him. “I have to, or we lose our Alexx.” He said coldly. She gave him a nod in understandment.

Caine walked over to where SWAT was, “What can I do for you lieutenant?” the member asked. “I need a vest.” Horatio said. “Weapon?” The member asked. “No.” and Horatio walked towards the lab.

He walked into the building checking his surroundings. Finally he found the ballistics lab, knocked on the door and said, “I’m coming in to talk, and I have no weapons, just a civilized conversation.” The man smirked, “Congratulations Lieutenant, you just saved a life.” He was wearing a mask. His graying dark brown hair was long, but that was all you could see of him. “Please lieutenant, sit.” Caine sat sinking into his chair slowly. He kept watching the hostages in a way to tell them it would all be okay. “I want to take him back to Cuba.” The member said. “Who?” Caine asked. “You know lieutenant.” He said. Horatio did know, it was Eric Delko. He was from Cuba, dealt with some illegal immigrant bogus then got back on his feet. “Why?” Caine asked. “You can find out later.” The member said. Caine finally realized who it was, it was Delko’s father. But how could he break the news to him? Caine felt even worse now. “You may pick your hostage to take out with you.” He said. Alexx looked up at Horatio wanting to say something. Caine bent down and she whispered in his ear, “Don’t take me, I’m strong, take Kyle, your son.” Horatio motioned to Kyle to get up. Then they walked slowly out the door.

Calleigh and Delko returned with the money. “We got it.” Calleigh said in panic and exhaustion. “Good send it in there, anyone but Eric.” Horatio said. This worried Eric, “What does he want? Is he disappointed in me?, did I do something wrong?” “Eric come here where it’s private, I need to tell you something important.” He meant business. “Yes sir.” “Eric, the man in there wants to take you back to Cuba; it’s your father isn’t it?” Horatio asked. “Yes sir, but,” Horatio bumped in, “I know you didn’t know this would happen and even if you did, you couldn’t have prevented it from happening.”

Speedle got on a vest and brought in the money. “My name is Speed, I work for Horatio Caine, and I’m here with the money you asked for.” “Throw the bag at the door!” the man shouted. Then pointed his gun towards the front desk manager Olivia. “Get up! And get me that bag!” She slowly got up, working her way to the door, sliding it open enough to show Speed it was her and not the man. She picked up the bag and tried to close the door, but he shot her. “You need to move faster!” She went down with a sharp thug. She had been hit in her right shoulder. She was losing blood quickly and Alexx knew she had to help her or she would die. He pointed his gun towards Alexx, but it didn’t bother her, she was used to it. “Leave her alone! Can’t you tell she’s scared?!” One of the hostages said, his name was Eddie. Alexx helped her bind up a bandage around her wound, but she needed medical attention soon. That’s when he shot the ceiling out of anger. Horatio Caine heard the shots then his cell phone rang again.

“Caine” He answered. “I want your guy out of here now!” Then the line went dead again. Was Speedle the one who was shot? He thought. “I’m going in again.” This time Calleigh didn’t argue.

He got in and moved swiftly down the halls towards the ballistics lab again, seeing Speed with his gun drawn towards the door. “Hey, get out of here. You weren’t supposed to bring your weapon.” Horatio said but more irritated. “I didn’t know, but it’s not what caused the shots.” And he slipped down the hall. I’m coming in to get Olivia, I still have no weapon.” Horatio said easing his way to the door. He walked in slowly then saw Alexx holding pressure on the wound. She was right; she was bleeding through and a lot. He swept Olivia up and carried her all the way down the hall all the way to the ambulance. “You’ll be okay, I’ll send someone to see you and get answers soon.” Horatio said sweetly. “Just hang in there.”

Horatio’s phone rang again, “Hello Lieutenant. How did it feel to have your own son away from you?” Caine was silent. “That’s what I thought.” The man finished. I’ll find him again Caine. Caine said coldly, “Not if I find you first.”

They saw the last two hostages slowly leave the building. Alexx looked up at Horatio and ran over to her Team mates. “I’m so glad to see you guys!” Alexx said with relief in her voice. We’re glad to see you too.” Horatio said. “Someone is going to need to take Mark, Olivia’s husband over to the hospital if any of you are going.” Calleigh gave a nod in agreement that she had room in the HUMMER. She escorted Mark to the car and they drove away.

SWAT moved quickly but he had escaped. “Dangit! Just when he was in our own lab! He escapes!” Speed said. Horatio had a striking look of concern in his face, “Where is Kyle?!” they looked at each other, but they all had blank faces. Horatio took off.

When his team was done gathering evidence they noticed Eric had also left, and quickly. Eric Delko drove faster than he had ever before to his father’s hotel. “Dad, you need to come to my place so I can keep you there, so no one can find you.” Eric said concerned. “But I have to find his son.” His father replied. “I know you didn’t do that, you were forced to break into the lab weren’t you?” “Yes son, but that’s a different story.” “Well dad, why don’t you share it then?” After Delko said this you could feel the tension in the air now. “Well, I ran into Toni Ciccolini, he knew that you were a cop and wanted to bring you back to Cuba, then he found out you were originally born in Arizona, that’s why he faked the form saying you were illegal. He wanted a cop because he wanted you to work for him, so he used me, he said if I didn’t bring you back, I would die and you would be next.” Eric gave his father a cold stare. “Why do you need Horatio Caine’s son Kyle for then?” “I need him to pull your stupid Lieutenant to Toni. He’s here in Miami. He wants to get pay back on him for deporting him back to Cuba.” Delko looked confused. “Then, well, why his son?” “So Toni can kill Horatio!” Eric took his father back to his place.

Horatio Caine found his son at home. “Kyle?” “Hi dad.” Kyle said in a low, concerning voice. “Why did you leave son?” “The mob guy wouldn’t find me here so I left.” “Good job son. I’m putting you in...,” He was about to say protective custody but he is his father and plus he takes in the kids that need it. “You stay here.” “Bye dad.” As Horatio left he turned on the security system even though he lived in a neighborhood full of cops.

Horatio walked into his office seeing Eric sitting in a chair in front of his desk. “Glad to see you sir.”Delko said. “We need to talk.” Caine said sternly. “Look lieutenant, I don’t want to hide things from you, my father is staying at my place.” Horatio leaned in closer, “Bring him in then.” Delko got a little bit nervous. “I can’t, if you want to bring him in you’re going to have to get a warrant.” “Sounds like your working against your own team.” Horatio said coldly giving him a stare he could not release from. “That’s just how it is, he’s my father and I’m going to protect him.” Horatio’s eyes got tighter and colder than ever, “He’s going after my son! What makes you think you can stop me?!” This scared Eric a lot. “I think I better go and see how Calleigh’s doing on those bullets.” And he quickly left.

Horatio walked into Major Michael Wallace’s office. “I need a warrant.” He said in a serious but not so cold way. Then he explained it. “Here you go lieutenant, good luck.” Thank you sir.” And he walked out the door heading to his HUMMER.

He got to Eric Delko’s place and banged on the door. Eric answered it, “H, What are you doing?!” “I got your warrant, now I want your father.” He busted through the door way and sent his officers in to get him then escorted him to the car. Horatio turned and stared at Delko and said, “What makes you think you can stop me in an investigation that has to do with me and my son’s life?!” “Look, H, I’m sorry, but I will tell you why I had to.” Horatio turned and walked away.

They were in the interrogation room now, and Caine stared at Delko’s father with cold blue eyes. “Where’s Toni?” He was calm through all this until after the next thing, “Maybe I know maybe I don’t.” Caine started getting irritated. “This is not a negotiation.” “I don’t know.” Caine blew up, “Don’t you lie to me! Tell me or you’ll be in an 8x8 cell in two seconds flat, never to see the light of day!” “Fine lieutenant, He’s staying at the Sunshine Inn located on South beach. Then Horatio stormed out.

Calleigh and Speed were parked right behind Horatio’s HUMMER. When they pulled out to the house, quickly got out of the car, guns drawn and ready for what might happen next. Horatio slowly crept to the door and knocked, “MDPD! Open up!” Calleigh gave a nod to bust down the door. Horatio checked his surroundings, Calleigh took the kitchen, Speed in the living room, Horatio moved upstairs. As Horatio was walking upstairs he caught his eye on Toni. “Hey, Hey, take it easy lieutenant!” “Don’t tell me to take it easy, I will when I want to.” Speed ran up and helped Horatio escort Toni to the HUMMER. Now that Toni was off the streets, Horatio let Delko have his father become a citizen of America.

Later Eric got off his shift and walked out of the front door of the MDPD. The whole team was there waiting. “So I hope none of you are mad at me.” Eric said. “We aren’t.” Calleigh said. “Yeah, no hard feelings.” Alexx added. “By the way Eric,” Horatio said, “Good work.” And that made Eric Delko’s day, and the rest of team’s as well. THE END.
