Sarnov's RevengeThis is a featured page

(Sequel to “Hawaii Calls”)
Four months have passed since the showdown with the Black Bishops. Kenzie has become a solid member of the team, and has begun to develop a personal relationship with Dave. In an empty warehouse at the Port of Miami, a meeting is underway. Surrounded by a dozen armed guards, four men engage in a very heated argument.

Mikhail Polonovic: (in a thick Russian accent) Why do you only come now?
Nikolai Sarnov: (in a refined Russian accent) I told you. I was given orders to stay away until I received word of an outcome.
Victor Slovanovic: (coming to a standstill at Mikhail’s side) Was this the outcome you were hoping for, Petrovski? Sarnov, dead?
Nikolai: (getting angry) You should learn to hold your tongue, Slovanovic.
Mikhail: (challengingly) Or what?
Sergei Gorgonov: (stepping to Nikolai’s side) He’ll deal with me, Polonovic. (staring Victor down) Ivan’s death is clearly on the heads of the Brotherhood members in Miami. (to Mikhail) It is your lack of diligence that has caused the upheaval within our organization.
Mikhail: You cannot possibly put all of the blame for Ivan’s death on us! If it hadn’t been for that Pyccknn (traitor) Kasparov…
Nikolai: (livid) I will place blame where it is due! My brother…(trying to calm down) My brother would still be alive if it were not for your lack of loyalty, Mikhail. (pulls gun and aims)
Mikhail: (frantic) Wait! Wait! My loyalty was always to Ivan! I only followed…
Nikolai: Enough of your lies! (aims at Mikhail’s head) Now you can go to hell where you belong! (pulls trigger; Mikhail falls with a bullet in his head) I will avenge my brother. (opening the folder held out by Sergei, revealing photos of Horatio, Eric and Sharova) Starting with these three. (aiming at Victor) Now…who are you loyal to, Victor? (Victor cowers)

The next day, Calleigh is on her way to work when she gets a call.

Calleigh: (on Bluetooth, driving) Duquesne.
Kenzie: (split screen) So, are we still doubling tonight?
Calleigh: Of course! Those two have been planning for days! (pulling into the lab parking lot)
Kenzie: I know! What’s with all the secrecy? (getting into Calleigh’s Crossfire at Dade University)
Calleigh: I don’t know, but I think it’s got something to do with a certain “milestone”. I’m sure it’s worth the wait! (laughing and getting out of the Hummer) You on your way in?
Kenzie: Yeah. Be there in a few.
Calleigh: Great. See ya when ya get here. (Stetler walks up, looking smug and self-satisfied)
Kenzie: ‘Kay. (hangs up)
Calleigh: (hangs up and grabs her bag, turning to Stetler) Hello, Rick.
Stetler: Ms. Duquesne. If I could speak to you inside…?
Calleigh: You’re speakin’ to me now, Rick. What is it?
Stetler: I think we should go inside. (gestures for her to precede him)
Calleigh: Fine. (starts walking; phone rings) Duquesne.
Eric: (on the phone) Babe, I’m sorry.
Calleigh: Hang on. (to Stetler) I have to take this.
Stetler: Fine. (stalks off)
Calleigh: Eric, what’s goin’ on? What’re you sorry for?
Eric: Stetler knows about us, and he’s gonna push department policy. H is talkin’ to the chief right now.
Calleigh: Does he think that’s gonna help? I mean…
Eric: (waiting for Horatio outside of the Chief’s office) Apparently Stetler has known about us since we put the Black Bishops in prison. But because he didn’t do anything then…
Calleigh: It looks like he has an ulterior motive. (runs a hand through her hair)
Eric: Exactly.
Calleigh: (taking a deep breath) Okay. I’ll be there in a minute.
Eric: Okay. (pause) Cal?
Calleigh: Yeah?
Eric: We’ll get through this.
Calleigh: I hope so. (hangs up)

Kenzie pulls up just as Calleigh starts walking toward the door. When she catches up, Kenzie instantly feels the change in Calleigh.

Mackenzie: Cals, what’s wrong?
Calleigh: Stetler knows…about me and Eric.
Mackenzie: (faltering slightly) Not to be insensitive, Cals…but it’s really hard NOT to see there’s something between you. Someone could just say his name and you’d smile. The same goes for Eric. (putting an arm around Calleigh) And you knew Stetler would find out sooner or later.
Calleigh: But it could cost one or both of us our jobs.
Mackenzie: Cals, even Stetler doesn’t have that kind of clout. (opens the door and lets Calleigh in; follows her)
Calleigh: (meeting up with Eric and Horatio; to Eric) What’s goin’ on? I thought…
Eric: H just finished talkin’ to the chief.
Calleigh: (turning to Horatio) What’d he say, Horatio?
Horatio: He knows what Rick is up to. I’ve asked him to consider both of your records and work performance, especially in the last few months.
Mackenzie: (confused) What does that have to do with it?
Eric: (looking at Calleigh) It means that the original basis for the fraternization policy may not apply…if the chief is satisfied with our performance.
Mackenzie: Okay…so the chief is considering dropping the policy?
Horatio: Yes. But until we know for sure…
Calleigh: (looking at Horatio) Business as usual. (Horatio nods) Thank you, Horatio.
Horatio: You’re welcome, pal.
Stetler is on his way to the lab when he gets a call.

Stetler: (answering the phone) Stetler.
Chief: I need you in my office ASAP, Rick.
Stetler: Sir, I was on my way to the lab...
Chief: Now you're on your way to my office. Five minutes.
Stetler: (exasperated) Yes, sir. (Chief hangs up) Damn it! (heading back to the elevator; then in Chief's office) You wanted to see me, sir?
Chief: Have a seat, Rick. (picking up a set of papers as Stetler sits) I've been looking over your original proposal for the revisions to the department's fraternization policy. It's come to my attention that there are a couple of our best officers in violation of your amended policy.
Stetler: (with a smugly satisfied smile on his face) Yes, sir. I...
Chief: (cutting him off) However, it's also come to my attention that you've had knowledge of said violations for months...and only approached the involved parties today. Can you tell me why that is, Rick?
Stetler: (caught off guard) I...I had no proof, sir. I couldn't very well approach Delko and Duquesne on assumption alone.
Chief: I never said anything about Officer Delko and Detective Duquesne, Rick.
Stetler: (frantic) Sir, I...I just...assumed that...
Chief: (looking at the papers on his desk; coolly) Do you take me for a fool, Rick?
Stetler: Absolutely not, sir!
Chief: (staring Stetler down) Then stop insulting my intelligence! I know that you have a bone to pick with Horatio and his team, but I'll be damned if you get to use some policy infraction to do it! As of now, the fraternization policy is on review. You are to stay out of the lab and away from all of the CSIs. Is that clear?
Stetler: (dumbfounded; quietly) Yes, sir.
Chief: I mean it, Rick. If you so much as think of looking at anyone in the lab funny, I'll suspend you- without pay- until the review is finished. (turning back to his work) That is all.
Meanwhile, Kenzie enters the AV lab and finds Dave working on dash cam footage from a causeway chase.

Dave: Hey. (smiles) What’s up?
Mackenzie: (surprised) You didn’t hear about Stetler?
Dave: (working the controls) What about him?
Mackenzie: He’s pushin’ the fraternization policy on Eric and Cals.
Dave: (stopping to face her) What? When?
Mackenzie: This morning. (frustrated) He’s known since we nailed the Bishops!
Dave: (confused) But everyone knows it’s been longer than that for them!
Mackenzie: I know. Horatio talked to the chief. He’s tryin’ to get the policy amended, if not dropped completely.
Dave: (dumbstruck; sitting down) Wow. (looks at Mackenzie) That’s not the only reason you came lookin’ for me, is it?
Mackenzie: Well, no. (fidgeting)
Dave: (reaching for her hand) What’s on your mind, Kenz?
Mackenzie: It’s just…(taking his hand) It could be us on the chopping block.
Dave: Yeah, it could be. (contemplatively) I hope the lieutenant was really persuasive when he talked to the chief.
Mackenzie: We’ve been together for three months. What’re we gonna do if they policy holds? We won’t be able to work together.
Dave: Horatio’ll find a way to keep the team together. (squeezes Mackenzie’s hand; grinning) Unless we let the personal get in the way of the professional.
Mackenzie: (smiling) I guess you’re right. Well, I’ll let you get back to work. (kisses him briefly) See ya tonight.
As Kenzie heads to DNA, Horatio heads out to the parking lot and run into an unexpected visitor.

Yelina: (smiling) Just the person I was looking for!
Horatio: (smiling back) Yelina. How are you? Ray Jr.?
Yelina: I’m fine, Horatio. So is Ray Jr. (seriously) Umm…walk with me?
Horatio: All right. (as they head away from the doors) What’s on your mind?
Yelina: I’ve been keeping an eye on some of Sarnov’s properties.
Horatio: (concerned) Yelina…
Yelina: Not undercover. (once Horatio relaxes) It seems as if the smaller players are still arguing over who the next boss will be. (pulls out a picture and gives it to him) This man looks to be the favorite for the position.
Horatio: Who is he?
Yelina: I don’t know. The only name I’ve been able to get is Alexei Petrovski, but I doubt that’s his real name. The photos I’ve been able to get of him are from a distance, so I can’t get a clear facial recognition comparison. I thought maybe you could get AV to give it a shot.
Horatio: (nods) I’ll see what I can do. (studying her face) What else is on your mind?
Yelina: I’ve gotten close enough to overhear a few things.
Horatio: Like what?
Yelina: I’m not completely sure, Horatio…but I think that there may still be a price on your head, and Eric’s. (looks him in the eye and takes his hand) Please be careful. Promise me you’ll be careful.
Horatio: (looks into her eyes and sees the fear) I promise.
Unbeknownst to Horatio and Yelina, Stetler- who has been sitting in his car- has overheard everything that was said since they stopped by Yelina’s car. He speeds past them on his way to the prison in hopes of getting some information.

Yelina: (staring after the car) Was that…?
Horatio: That was…that was Rick. I don’t think he’s very happy at the moment.
Yelina: Oh?
Horatio: The fraternization policy is on review…and the chief just gave him a tongue lashing- at least that’s what Debra said.
Yelina: Oh. Well, I better let you get back to work. You’ll let me know when you get anything from the photo? (Horatio nods; Yelina impulsively hugs him and kisses his cheek) Don’t be a stranger, huh?
Horatio: (smiling slightly) Yes, ma’am. (Yelina gets in the car and Horatio closes the door)

Meanwhile, Stetler is waiting for his possible informant. The guard finally opens the door and ushers in the prisoner.

Stetler: Sharova.
Sharova: (sitting across from Stetler) What do you want? I’ve told you everything I know. Why can’t you leave me in peace?
Stetler: Because…there’s something else I want from you.
Sharova: I have nothing left to give you.
Stetler: Not even for a reduced sentence? (maliciously) Or for your…son?
Sharova: What about my son? What’s happened to him? (panicked) Tell me!
Stetler: (smiling evilly) Nothing’s happened…yet. And…if you tell me how to contact the Brotherhood, I can make sure nothing ever happens.
Sharova: You are no friend of my son’s. And I would rather rot in this hellhole than give you access to the Brotherhood!
Stetler: (angry) Fine. Then you’ll rot here until hell freezes over! (standing and slamming his hands on the table) I’ll get what I want, one way or another! (storms out)

Back at PD, Horatio walks in AV.

Horatio: Dave.
Dave: Lieutenant Caine. (working the controls) Did you need something, sir?
Horatio: (holds out the photo for Yelina) I’d like you to take a look at this.
Dave: (pausing the images on screen to face Horatio) Okay. What do you need from it?
Horatio: I’m trying to get a facial recognition comparison from it. I need to identify the man in the gray suit. Quickly.
Dave: Okay. I’ll let you know as soon as I get something.
Horatio: (heading out) Thank you.
At the end of the day, Eric waits for Calleigh in the parking lot. Calleigh walks out, talking to Kenzie on the phone.

Calleigh: (on the phone) So are you and Dave meetin’ us at Crosby’s?
Mackenzie: (walking through the lab to AV) Yeah. I just have to get him away from the computer.
Calleigh: Okay. See you in twenty. (hangs up, stops at Eric’s side; smiling) Hey you.
Eric: Hi babe. (smiling slightly as he leans down to kiss her) You ready to go?
Calleigh: Yeah. Kenzie and Dave’ll meet us at Crosby’s.
Eric: Okay. Then let’s go.
The next day at the lab, Dave picks up where he left off in AV. Almost instantly, answers pop up.

Dave: (after getting over the shock) Oh ****. (pulls out his phone and dials) Lieutenant, it’s Dave. I got something.
Horatio: (on phone) I’ll be right there. (hangs up with Dave; calls Yelina) Yelina, it’s Horatio. Dave got something off the photo.
Yelina: I’ll be there in five.
Horatio: I’ll meet you outside. (hangs up)

Horatio waits in the parking lot for Yelina. When she arrives, he opens her door and helps her out before leading her inside and to the AV lab. In the meantime, Stetler- who saw Yelina pull in- lingers in the parking lot and bugs Yelina’s car.

Horatio: (in AV) Dave. What’ve you got?
Dave: I restarted the mirror image program this morning, to try and configure a front view headshot. I called you as soon as that program finished. This is what it gave me. (pulls up the image)
Yelina: (sitting in the chair Horatio pulled up for her) Horatio, do you see it? He could be…
Horatio: (with a hand on her shoulder) Ivan’s twin. (to Dave) Could you print that for me?
Dave: (handing Horatio a print) Already done. I’ve also started the facial recognition program and I’m running it through all the databases, too. (Yelina walks out)
Horatio: Thank you. (follows Yelina out the door)
Dave: (to himself) I so don’t want to know.
Horatio walks Yelina to her car, reassuring her that everything is fine, and watches her drive away. Then he heads back inside, photo in hand, to find Eric.

Horatio: (walking into the print lab) Eric.
Eric: H. (sees the photo in Horatio’s hand) What’s up?
Horatio: (holding the photo out to Eric) It looks like the Brotherhood is still going strong.
Eric: (taking the photo) Who’s this? (looks at it) Wait. That looks like…
Horatio: Sarnov. (pauses) When did you speak to Sharova last?
Eric: Um…I went to see him last week. You don’t think…? (looks at Horatio) No. There’s no way he’d go back to them now. They’ll kill him.
Horatio: Eric, I want you to watch your back. (quietly) There’s a good chance that we’re still in their sights. Be careful.
Eric: I will, H. You too, huh? (studying the photo)
Horatio: You know it. (walks out, leaving the photo with Eric)

Later that night, at Calleigh’s house, Eric has just walked in. Kenzie is on her way over with Dave for a group dinner.

Calleigh: Hey. (reaches up to kiss him, then looks closer and sees the worry in his eyes) What’s wrong?
Eric: (putting his stuff down on the couch) H caught something connected to the Brotherhood today.
Calleigh: (puts down the glass of wine in her hand) The Russians?
Eric: (pulls out the picture and hands it to her) H thinks they’ll retaliate under new leadership.
Calleigh: (shocked by the resemblance to Sarnov) Horatio thinks they’re gonna come after you again, doesn’t he?
Eric: (nodding) Especially if the mystery guy is who H and Yelina think he is. (quietly) He thinks they’ll make a move on my father, too.
Calleigh: (taking his hands) You’re worried they’ll go for Sharova in prison, like they did Sarnov.
Eric: I know they will. They see him as a traitor…and they’d go for him to get to me. (looking into Calleigh’s eyes) Just like they’ll go after you.
Calleigh: (hearing Dave and Mackenzie )We could go see him tomorrow. At least make sure he knows what's goin’ on. (pause) And we should tell Dave and Kenzie.
Eric: Yeah. Anyone close to me has to be really careful. (tilting her chin up to look her straight in the eye) But especially you.
Calleigh: (trying to downplay the situation) I distinctly remember you sayin’ something like that when you almost got deported. (smiling) Do you remember what I said then?
Eric: (remembering with a grin) Yeah. Something about a whole arsenal of guns.
Calleigh: Exactly. (tiptoeing to kiss him again)
Mackenzie: (walking in) Are we interrupting something?
Dave: (grinning; walking in carrying takeout containers) Yeah. Should we come back another time?
Calleigh: (laughing and facing Mackenzie and Dave) Get in here, you two. (hugging Mackenzie and ushering Dave into the kitchen) What’s for dinner?
Dave: (enthusiastically with Eric as they unpack containers) Chinese!
Mackenzie: (to Calleigh and Eric) So…anything from the chief?
Calleigh: No, but…(getting plates)
Eric: We do have something else we need to talk to you about.
Dave: That sounds serious.
Mackenzie: (concerned) What’s wrong?
Eric: Let’s eat first. Then we’ll tell you everything.
Meanwhile, at the club, Nikolai is gathering intel and planning his revenge.

Nikolai: Sergei, what do have for me?
Sergei: I’ve talked to the other bartenders. This Lieutenant Caine arrested Kasparov’s girl a few weeks before Ivan’s death. No one’s seen her since. The other- Sharova- he’s been in prison for about six months, but they’re not sure where. This other one…(tapping Eric’s picture) He’s a cop, too.
Nikolai: Who pulled the trigger on my brother, Sergei?
Sergei: I don’t know, Nikolai. I’m checking the news feed from six months ago but I haven’t found anything yet.
Nikolai: (getting angry) Find out what happened to my brother, Sergei. And find out why no one helped him!
The next day, Stetler follows Yelina to the club and finally gets the link that he’s been looking for. When Yelina leaves, he goes inside.

Bartender: (in a Russian accent) We’re closed.
Stetler: I was trying to find someone. I have information on Lieutenant Horatio Caine.
Bartender: I don’t know what you are talking about. You need to leave.
Stetler: I was told that someone is looking for information on Caine, and to come here.
Bartender: I told you, I don’t know…(Sergei walks in)
Sergei: What’s going on? We’re closed.
Bartender: I tried to tell him that, but…
Stetler: I have information on Horatio Caine.
Sergei: You need to…(realizing what Stetler said) What kind of information on Caine?
Stetler: Information that will make sure he’s no longer a problem for you. (sneering) I know how to get to him.
Nikolai: (coming out of the back room) And what do you get out of this?
Stetler: (smiling evilly) I’m open to negotiation.
Nikolai: Then let’s…negotiate. (leads Stetler and Sergei into the back room)

Back at the lab an hour later, Calleigh is on her way to join Eric on his visit to Shrove (with some very exciting news) when a callout comes through.

Dispatch: CSI respond: Port of Miami warehouse #5. Reported possible body dump. Medical Examiner en route from previous crime scene. ETA forty-five minutes.
Calleigh: (on radio) Dispatch, CSI Duquesne en route to Port of Miami. ETA twenty minutes.
Dispatch: Confirmed. Backup ETA thirty minutes.
Calleigh: Duquesne out. (on Bluetooth after hitting Eric’s speed dial number) Hey, it’s me.
Eric: (split screen; smiling as he drives) Hey. Where are you?
Calleigh: I’m headin’ for the port. I just got a callout. I’m sorry, babe. I know I said I’d go with you…
Eric: Are you on your own?
Calleigh: Yeah. Ryan and Nat are down in Biscayne Bay on another case, and Kenzie doesn’t have field certification yet.
Eric: I’ll meet you there. We’ll go see my father another time.
Calleigh: No. He needs to know now. I can handle this. I’ve got backup coming- they’re ten minutes behind me.
Eric: But…
Calleigh: I’ll be fine. Go see Sharova.
Eric: Are you sure?
Calleigh: Yes. I’ll talk to ya later. Let me know how it goes.
Eric: Okay. Be careful.
Calleigh: Always. (hangs up; slightly disappointed) I’ll just tell him tonight, after work.

As Calleigh continues to the port, Stetler arrives at PD after coaching Sergei through the 911 call to Dispatch. Meanwhile, following Stetler’s directions, Nikolai makes a call while Sergei gives Victor directions for his task over the phone.

Eric: (answering the phone) Delko.
Nikolai: (in Russian) You are going to suffer for a long time. I am going to take everyone you love from you- just as you have done to me!
Eric: Who is this?
Nikolai: (in English) You will beg me to kill you when you have nothing left- starting with the woman. (hangs up)
Eric: The woman…Calleigh! (hitting Calleigh’s speed dial number and making a U turn) C’mon, babe. Pick up! (voicemail comes on) Damn! (hitting Horatio’s speed dial and pushing the speed limit)
Horatio: Caine.
Eric: H, they’re goin’ after Calleigh! I don’t know if I’m gonna make it in time!
Horatio: (running to his Hummer) Who is, Eric?
Eric: (frantic) The Brotherhood. I got a call. He was speaking Russian. He said he was going to take everyone I love, just like I’d done to him. And that he was starting with the woman.
Horatio: (in the Hummer) Where are you?
Eric: I was on my way to see my father. I’m heading back to the Port of Miami now.
Horatio: Why the port?
Eric: Calleigh was heading there on a callout. (panicked) I’ll be there in ten minutes, but…
Horatio: I’ll be there in five. (hangs up; calls Dispatch) This is Lieutenant Caine. I need a trace on a 911 call…

As Horatio and Eric try to get to the port, Calleigh pulls up outside of Warehouse #5. Getting out of the Hummer, Calleigh grabs her kit and walks toward the side door. Opening the door, her sense of smell is assaulted by the odor of decomp.

Calleigh: That’s definitely been there awhile. (into memo recorder) The odor suggests that the DB has been in here for at least two days, maybe three. (thinking aloud) I wonder why it took so long for someone to report. (puts her kit down next to the DB and takes out gloves)
Victor: (stepping out of the shadows) Because no one else has been near here. (Calleigh jerks in surprise and reaches for her gun) Don’t even think about it. Turn around.
Calleigh: (obeying cautiously) Who are you? (clicks on memo recorder in her pocket)
Victor: Past’ zakroi (Shut it)! I only follow orders, you must die! (comes over to Calleigh and starts to tie her up next to a stack of large shipping crates) I kill you and Petrovski will let me live. I won’t end up like Mikhail. (looks over at the DB)

As Victor finishes tying Calleigh up and starts dousing the warehouse with gasoline, Horatio enters the Port of Miami. Inside the warehouse, Victor finishes up and waits for his signal. Suddenly, sirens sound.

Victor: Chyort voz’mi (Damn it)! What is he waiting for? (flicking the lighter in his hand) Svolock’ (Bastard)! Screw this!

Victor tosses the lighter and heads for the back door. Calleigh watches in horror as the stack of crates at the front door catch fire, then continues to work at the ropes binding her hands and feet.
Outside, Horatio pulls up in time to see the flames licking at the cargo door of the warehouse. Eric pulls up just as Horatio finishes the 911 call for Fire Rescue.

Horatio: (to Eric) Fire Rescue is on the way. (checking the side of the warehouse)
Eric: Where’s Calleigh?
Horatio: Her Hummer is parked on the other side. I think she’s still in there.
Eric: H, we have to get her out! Fire Rescue won’t make it in time!
Horatio: Let’s go. (runs for the far side of the warehouse with Eric)

As Horatio and Eric run towards the warehouse, the promised backup patrol car pulls up, followed by Alexx in the ME’s van. Alexx gets out and runs to join the uniforms by Horatio’s Hummer.

Alexx: Where’s Horatio?
Patrol: He went in with Delko. CSI Duquesne’s in there.
Alexx: What was she…? Where’s Fire Rescue?
Patrol: On the way.

Just then, Fire Rescue pulls up and rushes into action. In the warehouse, Horatio and Eric fight to get to Calleigh.

Eric: (frantically through the smoke) Calleigh! Calleigh!
Calleigh: (still fighting with her restraints) Here! (coughing) Eric!
Horatio: (spotting Calleigh) Eric! (pointing) There! Let’s go!
Eric: We’re comin’, Calleigh! Hang on!

Eric barrels through the remaining space between him and Calleigh with Horatio on his heels. Upon reaching her, he takes in the scene, and quickly cuts through the ropes binding her hands and feet.

Eric: (coughing; to Calleigh) Can you make it on your own?
Calleigh: (coughing harshly) I think…(coughing continues; getting worse)
Eric: H! We gotta get her outta here!
Horatio: (taking off his jacket as Eric picks Calleigh up) Hang in there, pal.
Eric: (as Horatio covers Calleigh) Hang on, baby. (Calleigh continues coughing)
Horatio: (to Eric) Let’s get out of here!

Outside, as Alexx watches frantically, Fire Rescue finally starts bringing the blaze under control. Horatio kicks the door open and leads Eric out. Calleigh, in Eric’s arms, continues to fight for oxygen. Alexx, after calling to a medic for oxygen, rushes over to help.

Alexx: (pulling Horatio’s jacket off of Calleigh) Calleigh, baby. Can you hear me? (to Horatio and Eric) How long was she in there? (taking the oxygen from the medic and hooking Calleigh up as another medic positions a gurney so Eric can put her down)
Eric: (coughing) I don’t know, Alexx.
Alexx: (to Calleigh) Breathe, Baby Girl. C’mon now. (to the medic) I need N-O.
Medic: What do you…?
Alexx: I’ve treated her before. She has ARDS. We need to get her stabilized or we’ll lose her in transit. N-O, now.
Medic: Yes, ma’am.
Eric: Alexx…(as a medic puts him on oxygen and Alexx takes care of Calleigh)
Alexx: Eric, baby. Do you trust me? (Eric nods) I’ll take care of her. (as the medics load Calleigh into the ambulance) Your job is to find the bastard that put her on that gurney. You hear me? (Eric nods; Alexx pulls out phone) I’m calling a friend of mine at Dade Memorial. She’ll take care of Calleigh, until I can get to the hospital. Now, you go with her, and get checked out. (watches Eric get in the ambulance next to Calleigh, then turns to face Horatio as the ambulance pulls away) Horatio, are you okay?
Horatio: I’m…fine, Alexx. (taking breaths of oxygen occasionally) Calleigh?
Alexx: On the way to Dade Memorial now. I think you got her out soon enough, and we were quick enough with the N-O. I’ll know more when I get word from Liz- Dr. Liz Channing. (seriously pissed) What the hell is goin’ on?! Who’s behind this, Horatio?
Horatio: We’re not sure, Alexx. But…we’re going to find out.

At another random Brotherhood property, Nikolai and Sergei catch the news.

Reporter: The blaze was reported by Lieutenant Horatio Caine, who then rushed into the burning building with another officer. The officer that had been trapped inside remains in critical condition…(fading out)
Nikolai: (livid) Svoloch’ (Bastard)! He couldn’t even do this right! (to Sergei) Where is Victor? He should have been here by now!
Sergei: Nikolai…at least he’s gotten rid of Mikhail’s body for us. It’ll be much harder for them to connect him to us now.
Nikolai: (cooling down) I suppose you are right. (getting an idea) Call that scumbag cop- Stetler. Let’s see what he can tell us.

At the hospital, Eric is in the waiting room while Alexx’s old emergency crash crew work on destabilizing Calleigh. Kenzie runs in, followed by Ryan and Natalia.

Mackenzie: (reaching Eric and throwing her arms around him) How is she?
Eric: It was touch and go for a bit. The attending…(hanging onto Mackenzie) We almost lost her on the way here.
Mackenzie: (squeezing a little harder, then stepping back) You know her as well as I do, and you know…(choking up slightly as Ryan and Natalia join them) You know she’s not the type to give up without a fight. We have to keep believing that.
Ryan: (giving Mackenzie a hug) Yeah, man. She’s not a quitter…and she’d kick us all if we started thinking’ that way.
Natalia: (putting an arm around Eric) Have they told you anything? Alexx filled us in at the lab.
Eric: Nothing new. (looking around) Where’s H?
Mackenzie: He said he was gonna take care of something, then he’d be here.
Eric: Oh. Okay. (sitting down) Then I guess we wait.

Fifteen minutes later, the doctor emerges and comes down the hall.

Mackenzie: (seeing the doctor) Eric.
Eric: (standing and holding onto Mackenzie; to the doctor) Doc, how is she?
Channing: She’s stable now. Alexx did a great job of it on scene. Her system was a little rocky, and she’s got rope burns and some cuts and scrapes. She’s gonna have to stay on the vent for a few more hours to bring down her PEEP number, but otherwise…she and the baby will be just fine.
Eric/Mackenzie: (shocked) The baby?
Channing: You didn’t know?
Mackenzie: (as Eric stands speechless) Calleigh’s…pregnant?
Channing: Yes. About four weeks. I’d actually like to keep her for observation overnight.
Eric: (finally finding his voice) Can we see her?
Channing: One at a time for a few minutes. (pager goes off) I’ll be back later to check on her. (leaves)

Eric goes in to see Calleigh while Kenzie sits with Ryan and Natalia.
Ryan: How is she?
Mackenzie: (still in shock) She…She’s…
Natalia: (alarmed) Kenzie, what is it?
Mackenzie: (finally smiling) Cals is pregnant.
Ryan/Natalia: (excited and surprised) What?
Mackenzie: Cals and Eric are having a baby!
Natalia: Oh my God! (hugging Mackenzie) What else did the doctor say?
Mackenzie: Umm…(trying to stay composed) Okay. She said that Cals has rope burns, cuts, scrapes; and she needs to stay on the vent for a few more hours to get her PEEP number down. She wants to keep Cals for observation tonight, but otherwise Cals and the baby are gonna be fine.
Ryan: That’s great news!
Natalia: (smiling) Yeah, it is. How did Eric take it?
Mackenzie: (laughing) I think, once the shock wears off, he’ll be just fine. (looking in on Eric and Calleigh) They’ll be great parents. We shouldn’t say anything yet, though. (Ryan and Natalia nod)
Natalia: (putting a hand on Mackenzie’s shoulder) Why don’t you go on in? We’ll wait for you outside.
Mackenzie: Thanks, guys. (goes in and stands opposite of Eric)

While Eric sits with Calleigh at the hospital, Horatio is at PD following a hunch.
Yelina: (walking into Horatio’s office) Horatio. I drove over as soon as I heard. Is Calleigh all right?
Horatio: (poring over records) She’s stable, but the doctor wants to keep her overnight for observation.
Yelina: (sitting across from Horatio) Are you okay? Did you get checked out?
Horatio: I’m fine.
Yelina: What is all of that? (looks for herself when Horatio doesn’t answer) 911 calls? What are…?
Horatio: (finding his answer) The call that sent Calleigh to that warehouse came from the club. (looking up) This was no coincidence. Someone targeted Calleigh and knew that she’d be alone.
Yelina: Are you saying…?
Horatio: I think the department has a leak.

Meanwhile, Stetler steps out of his car at a rental property in Miami Beach to meet Nikolai and Sergei.
Stetler: What can I do for you “gentlemen”?
Nikolai: How do I get to your Lieutenant Caine? I want to make him suffer!
Stetler: Well…(thinks, then smiles evilly) How much do you want him to suffer?
Nikolai: That is irrelevant. Who can I take away from him?
Stetler: You’ve already targeted his team…and that will piss him off. But…how do you feel about using a woman and teenage boy?
Nikolai: I feel nothing either way…as long as he suffers.
Stetler: Then I know just what you need…and how to get it.

Down in the morgue, Alexx is finishing up with the very crispy remains of Mikhail from the warehouse fire. Ryan walks in.
Ryan: Hey Alexx.
Alexx: Ryan, honey. (writing something) I haven’t gotten past a prelim look at your vic. I’m just finishing with the vic from the port.
Ryan: Actually, I’m here about the port vic. With Calleigh and Eric out, Natalia is taking the Biscayne case and I’m takin’ this one.
Alexx: Oh. In that case, this guy was dead long before that fire was set. I found this…(picks up a .22 slug) in his skull. He was shot execution style, but from a distance- no exit wound.
Ryan: All right. Thanks, Alexx.
Alexx: You’re welcome, baby. (starts on next vic)

Across town, outside of Yelina’s house, Sergei and Nikolai wait for Yelina to drive up.
Nikolai: You are sure this is the right address?
Sergei: Yes. He said he bugged her car and will call when she’s almost here. (looking at Nikolai) Where do you want to take them?
Nikolai: I think we’ll take them to the train yard. And you can make the call. (phone rings) Answer it.
Sergei: Hello?
Stetler: She’s two blocks away.
Sergei: Good. (hangs up; sees Yelina pull in) There she is.
Nikolai: Where’s the boy? (shakes his head, then sees Yelina head into the house) Never mind. She…she will do.

The two men wait until Yelina is in the house before getting out of the car. Sergei approaches the front door as Nikolai takes the back. Sergei knocks on the door and, as Yelina goes to answer it, Nikolai comes in through the kitchen.
Yelina: (opening the door) Can I help you?
Sergei: I think so. (steps forward as if to enter; Nikolai comes up behind her) But you’ll help him more.

Yelina turns and see the “ghost” of Ivan. Before she even has a chance to scream, Sergei has her gagged. Yelina fights back and leaves enough of a mess to show foul play when Sergei and Nikolai drag her away.
At Dade Memorial, Calleigh has just woken up from the coma induced by the doctors while keeping her on the vent. The first thing she notices is Eric sitting next to her. Calleigh squeezes his hand.
Eric: (looking up with a relieved smile) Hey. You’re awake. Hold on- I’ll call the nurse. (Calleigh nods as he hits the call button)
Nurse: (at the door) Can I help you? (sees Calleigh looking at her) Oh. You’re awake!
Eric: Could you get Dr. Channing, please?
Nurse: Sure.
Eric: Thank you. (to Calleigh as the nurse leaves) You really scared me, you know. (squeezing her hand and stroking her cheek) I was so afraid I wouldn’t get to you in time.
Channing: (at the door) Welcome back, Ms. Duquesne. (approaching the bed) Well, your numbers are much better now. Let’s just get this tube out, okay? Breathe out on three. One, two, three…(pulls out tube as Eric gets water) Now, I’m putting you on bed rest for the next few days, just to let your system level out. I’d like to keep you overnight for observation…(as Calleigh shakes her head profusely)…but I can see you’d rather not be in here longer than absolutely necessary. (putting down Calleigh’s chart after making a few notes) And I’d like to offer you both my congratulations on the baby.
Eric: (as Calleigh looks shocked and mimes for paper and pen) Hang on, slow down. (getting paper and pen) Here.
Channing: (after reading Calleigh’s note) The baby is fine. I’m sure I don’t have to remind you to see your OB/GYN (Calleigh shakes her head) Okay. Well, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll go get your discharge papers together.
Eric: Thank you, Doctor. (quietly to Calleigh after Channing leaves) Why didn’t you tell me about the baby?
Calleigh: (writing frantically, then giving up; in a whisper) I only got the results this morning, and I wanted to tell you in person. I was so happy when I found out. (taking a sip of water) I was gonna tell you on our way to Sharova. (studying his face) Are you…upset?
Eric: (looking up from his hands and seeing the worry and fear in her eyes) No! No, I’m not upset. I was surprised, that’s all. When Dr. Channing told me and Kenzie that you and the baby were fine, my mind went blank. I started worrying about why you’d keep it from me. (stroking her cheek) I’m so happy. (leans over to kiss her) We’re having a baby…

Horatio, Alexx and Kenzie stop at the door just as Eric kisses Calleigh. When he stands again, Kenzie leads the way in.
Mackenzie: (to Calleigh) Hey. How are ya feelin’?
Calleigh: (after drinking water; still whispering) Better.
Mackenzie: (to Eric) Did you…? (hinting at the baby news; Eric nods) Are you…? (looking from Eric to Calleigh)
Eric: (smiling) We’re fine.
Alexx: (taking it all in) Is there something you’d like to share, Eric? (giving him “The Look”)
Eric: (looking at Calleigh with a smile) You wanna tell them, or should I?
Calleigh: (smiling) You tell them.
Eric: (taking her hand; to Horatio and Alexx) We’re having a baby.
Alexx: Oh! (coming over to hug Eric and kiss Calleigh; to Calleigh) Baby, when did you find out?
Calleigh: This morning, before…
Horatio: (smiling but slightly distracted) Congratulations.
Eric: Thanks, H.
Mackenzie: (to Eric and Calleigh) Do you know how hard it was to keep…

Horatio’s phone rings and he goes out into the hallway to answer it.

Horatio: This is Caine.
Ray Jr.: Uncle Horatio, I think something’s happened to Mom.
Horatio: What happened, Ray?
Ray Jr.: I just got home and the front hall is totally trashed. Mom’s car is in the driveway and her keys and purse are on the kitchen table, but she’s not in the house.
Horatio: (as Eric walks out to talk to him) Ray, get out of the house and wait for me. I’ll be right there. (hangs up)
Eric: H, what’s goin’ on?
Horatio: I think the Brotherhood just made their next move.
Eric: What’s Ray Jr. got to do with it?
Horatio: I think they took Yelina. (getting ready to leave)
Eric: I’ll meet you outside. (goes back into Calleigh’s room and kisses her) I’m goin’ with H. He thinks the Brotherhood has Yelina.
Calleigh: (shocked) What?!
Eric: (to Mackenzie after pulling her to the door) Take Cal home when Dr. Channing releases her. And stay with her, please.
Mackenzie: You got it. (hugs Eric) Be careful. (Eric runs out)

Back at PD, Ryan walks into AV to get Dave’s take on a case.

Ryan: Hey Dave.
Dave: What’s up?
Ryan: We have no way of ID’ing the vic from the warehouse fire, so I was thinking we could try facial recognition.
Dave: Wasn’t that guy…um, toasted?
Ryan: Yeah, but we’ve got that software that does reconstruction, right?
Dave: Oh, I see. Reconstruct the face, then do a facial recognition.
Ryan: That was the idea, yeah.
Dave: (starting up) By the way, how…how was Calleigh when you were at the hospital?
Ryan: She was…fine. The doc just kept her on the vent for awhile. Have you heard anything from Kenzie?
Dave: Actually, the doc just released Calleigh, and Kenz is takin’ her home.
Ryan: Really? (confused) Where’s Eric?
Dave: (looking up and sharing Ryan’s confusion) She didn’t say…

At Yelina’s house, Horatio and Eric pull up to find Ray Jr. sitting on the curb.

Horatio: (jumping out of the Hummer) Ray?
Ray Jr.: (cell phone in hand) I’ve tried calling Mom’s cell. She always leaves it on vibrate in her pocket, but she’s not answering.
Horatio: What did you see in the house, Ray? (as Eric heads for the open front door)
Ray Jr.: The door was closed when I got home. I opened the door and all I saw was the table overturned, Mom’s favorite vase in pieces on the floor and her shoes kicked off at the bottom of the stairs. (taking a breath as Eric joins them) I ran into the kitchen and found her purse and keys, and the back door was open.
Horatio: Eric?
Eric: The back door’s wide open- no sign of forced entry. The front hall’s trashed but the rest of the house is untouched.
Horatio: Which means they were waiting. They didn’t need to search the house. They knew when she’d be home, and they worked fast.
Ray Jr.: Who’s got my mom, Uncle Horatio? Why’d they take her?
Horatio: I think, Ray…that the people that have your mom are using her to get to me.
Ray Jr.: (scared) You’re gonna get her back though, right?
Horatio: Ray, I’m going to do everything I can to bring her home safely.
Eric: Ray, you said she probably still has her phone, right?
Ray Jr.: Yeah…
Eric: H, Yelina’s still on the department GPS tracking system. We should be able to use that to find her. (Horatio nods) I’ll call Natalia and get her to check it out.

Back at the lab, Natalia is just wrapping up the paperwork on the Biscayne case when Ryan comes in.

Natalia: (looking up from the case file) Hey. How’s it goin’ on the port case?
Ryan: That’s what I was comin’ to see you about. (pulls out a computer generated photo) Doesn’t this guy look familiar to you?
Natalia: (studying the photo) Yeah, he does…I just can’t place him.
Ryan: That was the same problem I had…until Dave found this…(pulls out a database printout)
Natalia: That’s…that’s one of the guys from Sarnov’s fight club! (staring at Ryan) Oh my God! Your vic was Russian mafia!
Ryan: Exactly. I’m starting to think that Calleigh being the one to get that callout was no coincidence. (Natalia’s phone rings)
Natalia: (checking the caller ID) It’s Eric. (answering) Hey Eric.
Eric: (split screen; on speaker on both ends) Hey Nat. Are you still at the lab?
Natalia: Yeah.
Eric: Could you log into the department’s tracking mainframe?
Natalia: Umm…Sure. (alarmed) Eric, what’s goin’ on?
Eric: The Brotherhood snatched Yelina sometime after she left Horatio at PD this morning. H thinks, and I agree, they’re out for revenge.
Natalia: Hang on. (logging in) I need her number, Eric. Horatio: (coming on) 305-555-7295.
Natalia: Got it. (running the number) Horatio, I think you’re right about the Brotherhood.
Ryan: (chiming in) H, the vic from the warehouse fire- his name’s Mikhail Polonovic. He was the head lackey at Sarnov’s fight club.
Natalia: (to herself) There’s her signal. (to the guys) She’s at the old Buena Vista train yard. I can triangulate once you guys get there.
Horatio: Thank you. (Eric hangs up; Horatio to Ray Jr.) We know where she is, Ray.

After getting a patrol unit to Yelina’s house, Horatio and Eric head to the train yard. On the way, Horatio makes another call.

Frank: (on the phone; split screen) Tripp.
Horatio: Frank.
Frank: Horatio. What’s up?
Horatio: I need you to meet me at the old Buena Vista train yard.
Frank: The train yard? What the hell…?
Horatio: Whoever’s running the Brotherhood has Yelina.
Frank: (heading to his car) We goin’ in hot?
Horatio: (with some fear in his voice) No. I don’t know what this guy is capable of.
Frank: I’ll be there in twenty. (hangs up)

Meanwhile, at the train yard, Yelina is just waking up from a dose of chloroform, and assesses her bound hands and feet. Nikolai walks in.

Nikolai: Ah, so you are awake now. Did you enjoy your nap?
Yelina: What do you want with me?
Nikolai: You are a means to an end. Lieutenant Caine, I am told, is very…attached to you.
Yelina: What has he done to you? What is this about?
Nikolai: You ask too many questions. (Sergei walks in)
Yelina: I just want to know why I’m here. If I’m going to die here, I want to know why.
Nikolai: (contemplating) Maybe…
Sergei: (to Yelina) Do you really not know what Caine has done?
Yelina: I don’t know what this is about.
Nikolai: This Lieutenant Caine…killed my brother.
Yelina: (confused) Your brother?
Nikolai: Ivan…
Yelina: (interrupting) That explains the resemblance…
Nikolai: You knew my brother? (desperate for information)
Yelina: (panicked) Yes…
Nikolai: How did you…(considering) It should not surprise me that you knew my brother. You are…(touching her hair)…a very beautiful woman.
Sergei: (suspiciously) How did you know Ivan?
Yelina: He hired me to kill someone before he went to prison.
Nikolai: Then how is it that you are so…important to Caine?
Yelina: I was married to his brother. (pause) If you think he killed Ivan, you’re wrong.
Nikolai: (getting in her face) What are you saying?
Yelina: You should be looking within your “organization” for Ivan’s killer.
Sergei: What do you mean? How is that…?
Yelina: It was someone on the inside that put out the order to poison him in prison.
Nikolai: Chyort voz’mi (Damn it)! (storms out)
Sergei: (following Nikolai) Nikolai, this changes everything!
Nikolai: (pacing wildly) Have you found anything from your searches about my brother’s death?
Sergei: No. I’ve gone over everything, and if there had been a shooting involving Caine, it would have been covered. This guy makes the headlines.
Nikolai: Are you saying that the woman is right? Someone in our own organization killed my brother?!
Sergei: I think…we need to look harder at all of our people in Miami. We know Kasparov betrayed Ivan, but he could not do it alone.
Nikolai: The we find the Pyccknn (traitor) that helped him!

At that moment, Eric, Horatio and Frank pull up outside of the old train depot.
Frank: (getting out of his car) Horatio. What the hell is goin’ on?
Horatio: (pulls out the photo of Nikolai) Who does this look like to you?
Frank: (studying the photo) That looks like your old pal Sarnov. But he’s dead! I saw his corpse with my own eyes!
Eric: This guy is definitely out to avenge someone or something connected to the Russians. The only person that it could be is Sarnov.
Frank: Wait a minute. Are you sayin’ that the thing this morning at the port with Calleigh is connected to this?
Horatio: It is.
Frank: All right. (drawing his sidearm) Then what are we waitin’ for?
Eric: (calling Natalia at the lab) A beacon. (to Natalia) Hey Natalia. We’re at the train yard. You got a signal?
Natalia: (split screen; working the mainframe in AV) Yeah. She’s about 200 yards west of you.
Eric: (to Horatio and Frank) 200 yards west- she must be in one of the train sheds. (to Natalia) Thanks, Natalia. (hangs up and draws his sidearm)

Eric and Frank head off to the far side of the nearest shed as Horatio reaches the side closest to the door. Through the door, Horatio hears Sergei.
Sergei: (on the phone) Find everything from May- all of the organization’s transactions, paperwork, shipping manifestos- everything. I want it all! (hangs up; to Nikolai) Done. Where do we go from here?
Nikolai: Who was my brother close to? Who would have been close enough that he would…overlook the…possibility of this person betraying him?
Sergei: It would be someone he trusted enough with the finances in his absence, which is why I want to see the business materials from May.
Nikolai: (nodding) Who do you trust with that task?
Sergei: Simon. (gesturing through the doorway at Yelina) What do we do with your lovely friend?

Outside, Horatio eases the door open. At the other end, Eric does the same. Almost simultaneously, Horatio and Eric enter the main shed area.
Horatio: (stepping into the first doorway) Let her go.
Nikolai: (spinning to face Horatio in shock; pulling a gun) Chyort voz’mi (Damn it)!

Sergei takes a dive and pushes Nikolai away from Horatio. Once on his feet again, Sergei almost drags Nikolai to the car parked at the train entrance to the shed. Nikolai tries to get a shot on Horatio even as Sergei speeds out of the shed. Eric rushes to supply cover fire for Horatio as Franks gets in to get Yelina. All too soon, Sergei and Nikolai escape to another Brotherhood hideout. At Calleigh’s, Kenzie is getting Calleigh settled after the drive from the hospital. Dave, who came over straight from the lab, is checking out the rest of the house.
Calleigh: (being ushered to the couch) Kenzie, I’m fine. Dr. Channing-
Mackenzie: I know exactly what the doctor said, Cals. You are on bed rest until next week- no “if’s”, “and’s” or “but’s” about it. (putting down Calleigh’s bag of clothes) Now, I’m gonna start a load of laundry- we gotta get the smoke smell out of that great blouse you had on- then I’ll get dinner started.
Dave: (coming down the stairs) All clear. (to Kenzie) Anything from Eric and Horatio?
Mackenzie: No, but I did get a call from Nat on the way here. It sounded like they had a lead to where Yelina was taken, and Ryan found out that Horatio called Frank.

Kenzie opens Calleigh’s bag and takes out her clothes. In the process, she feels something in the pants pocket.
Mackenzie: (with a confused look on her face) Cals, what were you carrying in your…(pulls out the recorder) pocket.
Calleigh: My recorder! I forgot about it.
Dave: Is it still working? (joining Kenzie) It should still function as long as it didn’t get wet.
Mackenzie: Cals, what were you recording?
Calleigh: (thinking) I turned it on when I went into the warehouse. Then I put it in my pocket so I could put my gloves on and get the scene photos.
Dave: (fiddling with the recorder) Let’s see if you caught anything.
Victor: (on the recorder; partially obscured by background noise) I only follow orders- you must die! I kill you and Petrovski will let me live. I won’t end up like Mikhail.
Mackenzie: Who’s Mikhail?
Dave/Calleigh: The DB.
Calleigh: (to Dave) How’d you know that?
Dave: Ryan’s been working the case since you’re out.
Mackenzie: That still doesn’t answer the question. Who is he?
Dave: You’d have to ask Ryan. I left right after we pulled the database photo.

As Calleigh, Kenzie and Dave ponder the identities of Mikhail and the man sent to kill Calleigh, Horatio, Eric and Frank talk with Yelina.
Yelina: Horatio, where’s Ray Jr.?
Horatio: He’s safe at the house with a patrol unit. They’re standing by until they get word from me. (studying her face) Are you all right?
Yelina: (shaking slightly) Umm…yeah…
Frank: What are these guys after? Why target cops?
Yelina: (to Horatio) The one we’ve been trying to ID is Ivan’s brother. He thinks you killed Ivan, Horatio.
Horatio: Well…
Yelina: We both know you didn’t. He was already dying when you found us in that parking garage.
Eric: H, if that’s what this is about, then we need to find out who’s really responsible for Ivan’s death. Who wanted Ivan dead?
Yelina: Anyone under him that wanted control of the Brotherhood.
Frank: What I don’t get is why’d they kidnap Yelina. (to Horatio) No one linked her to you when she was under as Sarnov’s hired gun. Who connected her to you now?
Yelina: Nikolai- Ivan’s brother- said someone told him that you were attached to me, Horatio.
Eric/Frank: (confused and shocked) What?!
Yelina: (to Horatio) I think you were right all along. There’s a leak in the department.
Eric: (finally understanding) The only person that would ever think to call you on that, H…
Horatio: (grimly) Rick.
Frank: (in disbelief) Stetler? But he’s…
Eric: Always been sour that H got promoted over him and got to head CSI.
Frank: So what’s he got against you, Delko?
Yelina: I think Nikolai is after anyone that can be linked, however remotely, to Ivan’s death.
Eric: Stetler would target any and all of us CSIs to get back at H.
Horatio: Eric, they could still be after Sharova.
Eric: (checking his watch) I’ll never make it down there before the end of visiting hours.
Frank: I’ll call in a favor with the warden. (as Eric looks at him in surprise) He owes me.
Eric: Thanks, Frank. (getting in the Hummer and driving off)
Horatio: (to Yelina) You ready to go home? (Yelina nods)
Frank: (to Horatio) How about I give you a lift- then you can ride back to PD with me. (maliciously) I’d love to get my hands on Stetler.

At another Brotherhood “front”, Sergei and Nikolai reassess the plan of action.

Nikolai: (pacing) How does a woman hired by my brother as an assassin know more about his death that the Brotherhood?
Sergei: (watching Nikolai) I think more important is the identity or identities of the members behind Ivan’s death order.
Nikolai: Where are those records? And where is that filth Slovanovic? And how did Caine find us so quickly?
Sergei: The records are on the way. (as Nikolai stops pacing) Victor was found dead an hour ago. Someone slit his throat and left him in a dumpster three blocks from the club. (Nikolai stares at him in shock) I sent a few scouts to look for him when he didn’t check in.
Nikolai: Chyort voz’mi (Damn it)! (after cooling down) Who is bringing the records?
Sergei: Simon. (pauses until Nikolai stops pacing again) I need to look into another possibility.
Nikolai: (impatiently) What is it, Sergei?
Sergei: If the woman is right, and Ivan’s death was by the hand of one of our own…
Nikolai: (intrigued) Go on.
Sergei: Then why didn’t our friend Stetler say so?

Meanwhile, Eric is at the prison talking to the warden while waiting to see Sharova.

Eric: Thank you for allowing me in.
Warden: Frank said it was important and, after what you just told me, I’d say he’s right. I don’t want another fiasco like we had with Sarnov. (Sharova is escorted in) Let me know when you’re done. (walks out)
Sharova: (relieved) Eric. You’re all right.
Eric: (confused; then understanding) You saw the news. (Sharova nods) I’m fine.
Sharova: The officer that was in the building…?
Eric: (after a moment of reliving the fear) She’s gonna be fine.
Sharova: (in realization) It was your lady friend. (berating himself) I should have given him what he wanted! You would not have been touched!
Eric: (confused) What are you talking about? Who are you talking about? (grabbing Sharova’s arms) Alexander!
Sharova: That lying bastard!
Eric: Who? Who’s a lying bastard?
Sharova: He’s a cop. He came two days ago, told me that if I gave him a connection, a contact to the Brotherhood, he would leave you and yours out of it.
Eric: Who was it, Alexander?
Sharova: (trying to think) Internal Affairs. Sergeant Stick…? Sergeant…?
Eric: (angry) Stetler. Stetler came here to see you?
Sharova: More than once. At first I thought he was trying to clear up any misunderstanding about your connection to me, but…
Eric: But what?
Sharova: The last time, he wanted contact information for the Brotherhood. He said he would use my…cooperation to cut my time here (gestures to the prison walls) and to make sure the Russians left you alone.
Eric: (worried) What did you tell him?
Sharova: I gave him nothing. I told him that I would rot in this cell before I helped him. (angry) If I had given him what he wanted…
Eric: This isn’t your fault…but you need to watch your back.
Sharova: (confused) Why?
Eric: Because anyone that is even remotely connected to Sarnov’s death could be a target. (quietly) Alexander, do you know who ordered Ivan’s death?
Sharova: No.
Eric: Are you sure?
Sharova: I swear it. The orders I was given came from Kasparov.
Eric: All right. (stands to leave, then stops and looks at Sharova) You stood up for me when I needed you. When the time comes- not if, when- I’ll do the same for you. (walks out as the guard comes to take Sharova back to his cell; to the warden in his office) I need to see your visitor logs.
Warden: (confused) The visitor logs?
Eric: I need to confirm something before I call Horatio.
Warden: All right.

Horatio and Frank have just pulled into the lot at PD when Horatio’s phone rings.

Horatio: (after checking the caller ID; answering) Eric.
Eric: H, I think I just found what we need to pin this is on Stetler.
Horatio: What’d you find?
Eric: He came to see my father three times, all within the last two months. (getting angry again) He was tryin’ to get contact info on the Brotherhood.
Horatio: Can we prove he was at the prison?
Eric: (smugly) Yeah. I don’t think he counted on us placing him here, or on my father telling me he’d been here. He even signed in and out.
Horatio: Eric…
Eric: I know this is all circumstantial, H. But he had no reason for questioning my father. The records will show that.
Horatio: All right. (checks time) Go home, Eric. Pick it up in the morning. (hangs up)

At the lab the next morning:

Ryan: (to Eric as he walks in) Hey. How’s Calleigh?
Eric: She’s good. My mom’s at the house with her today.
Ryan: Oh. By the way…(grinning and slapping Eric on the back) Congrats, man.
Eric: (smiling) Thanks. (starts to walk away, then stops) Hey. You seen Kenzie?
Ryan: She was with Natalia in DNA. Today’s her competency test.
Eric: Thanks. (heads to DNA with a sealed evidence bag)

At the club, Sergei and Nikolai question the bartender.
Sergei: Where’s Simon?
Bartender: I do not know. I have not seen him.
Nikolai: When did you see him?
Bartender: I think…I think he was here yesterday. He took the shipping ledgers.
Sergei: Who was with him?
Bartender: He was alone.
Nikolai: You are sure?
Bartender: (terrified) Yes. I swear!
Sergei: Did he say where he was going?
Bartender: He…he said…he…he was to meet you somewhere.
Sergei: (to Nikolai) Someone stopped him before he could get to us.

In DNA, Natalia watches as Kenzie runs samples through a series of tests.
Natalia: Kenzie, I don’t know what you’re worried about. (nodding in approval at Kenzie’s actions) You’re gonna ace the competency test.
Mackenzie: I’m so nervous, Nat!
Natalia: Kenzie, listen: You’ve aced every lab test Valera and I have thrown at you. You’re almost as good as Calleigh with ballistics, and your print work is top notch. I’ve never seen such thorough reports, not even when I was with the Feds. You’ve got it!
Eric: (standing at the door; when Mackenzie finishes the test) She’s right, Kenzie.
Mackenzie: (startled) Oh geez! (turning) Do you have to scare the daylights out of me?
Eric: (grinning) No, that’s just a side benefit. (walking in and hugging Mackenzie) Cal is gonna be bummed she missed this.
Natalia: How’s she doin’?
Eric: She’s okay. She hates being out, so I got my mom to come over and keep her company-
Mackenzie: (giving Eric ‘the Look’) Which is code for you have your mom playin’ babysitter.
Eric: I…I…I…(speechless)
Mackenzie: (laughing) Don’t worry- I won’t tell. (logging results) Besides, I’d do the same.
Natalia: By the way, congratulations! (hugging Eric)
Eric: Thanks. (to Mackenzie and Natalia) Could you take a look at something for me when you’re finished here? I need fresh eyes, and a more objective opinion.
Natalia: Sure. (Mackenzie nods) What is it?
Eric: The visitor log from the prison. (Natalia and Mackenzie give him confused looks) Stetler was there questioning my father. I need to prove that it’s his writing and his fingerprints, and not some imposter.
Natalia: Why was Stetler questioning your father? I thought he plead guilty to the accessory charges.
Eric: He did. My father says that Stetler wanted contact information for the Brotherhood. Stetler’s got no use for that- unless it’s personal.
Natalia: What are you getting at?
Eric: H thinks there’s a leak in the department. Yelina’s kidnapping proved that, since no one linked her to H when she was undercover.
Mackenzie: You think Stetler’s the leak. (confused) But why? Why would he do it?
Eric: To get back at H.
Natalia: But he’s a cop! Do you really think he’d go as far as setting Calleigh up, and kidnapping Yelina?
Eric: I wouldn’t put it past him.

Meanwhile, Stetler is on his way to PD when his phone rings.

Stetler: (answering) Stetler.
Sergei: Meet us at the club- Fifteen minutes.
Stetler: (angry) What? What is this?!
Sergei: There’s something for you to do- and you’ll do it if you want your cut! (hangs up)

At Yelina’s house, Horatio goes over everything with Yelina.
Horatio: After Ivan went to prison, who did Gregor answer to?
Yelina: He didn’t answer to anyone. From what I could see, there were a few of the “lieutenants” that took over- Gregor being one of them. I wasn’t familiar with the other two, but I went with Gregor to meet them at various Brotherhood “front” operations.
Horatio: Would you recognize them?
Yelina: Yes. (studying Horatio) What are you thinking, Horatio?
Horatio: (standing to leave) We can give Nikolai what he wants.
Yelina: (to Horatio’s back) Horatio, I told them they were looking at the wrong people for Ivan’s killer.
Horatio: (turning) What…what are you saying?
Yelina: (standing to go to him) I’m saying that Nikolai may be looking within the Brotherhood now. (as Horatio looks at her in distress) I had to try to protect you.

Back at the club, Sergei and Nikolai wait as Stetler steps out of his car.

Stetler: (to Sergei) What the hell is this?!
Nikolai: (facing Stetler) You are going to earn the money you’ll be getting when I have avenged my brother.
Sergei: Simon is missing.
Stetler: Who the hell is Simon?
Sergei: He was keeping an eye on things for me in our “business” dealings. He was bringing the records to me, but never showed up.
Stetler: You think someone was on to him? Somebody doesn’t want you to get those records?
Sergei: Someone doesn’t want us to see the records. I just don’t know who.
Stetler: What am I supposed to do about it?
Nikolai: You, my…friend, are going to find out who has Alexei. And when you find the Svoloch’ (bastard)…
Sergei: You bring him to us.

At the lab, Kenzie and Natalia work on the prison log book.

Natalia: (thinking about the conversation on Stetler) This is crazy! I mean, he’s a cop!
Mackenzie: (thinking aloud) I think it’s crazy, too. But I totally get Eric’s logic. (looking up at Natalia) Don’t you think it’s a little strange how Stetler is always trying to pin something on the team, or on Horatio?
Natalia: (considering) You know, you’ve got a point.
Mackenzie: (checking the time) Crap. I gotta go. Test starts in twenty minutes. (jittery; gathering folders)
Natalia: (squeezing Mackenzie’s arm) You’ll do fine. See ya later.
Mackenzie: Thanks. (walks out)
Natalia: (machine beeps) Let’s see what we’ve got. (checks the results; gasps) Oh crap. (pulling out her phone and dialing) This is insane!
Eric: (answering; split screen) Delko.
Natalia: Hey, it’s Natalia. It’s definitely Stetler’s writing and prints on the visitors’ log. Where’s this lead, Eric? I mean, how do we prove that Stetler’s dirty?
Eric: (meeting up with Horatio in the parking lot) I’ll let you know. (hangs up; to Horatio) It was definitely Stetler at the prison.
Horatio: (nodding) Apparently, Gregor wasn’t the only one that thought he could take over.
Eric: Do we know who else?
Horatio: Not yet. (heads inside with Eric on his heels)

Upstairs in his office, Stetler does a database search, looking for anyone with ties to the Brotherhood, and narrows it down to the top three. Once he gets the rap sheets on them, Stetler heads out again.
Meanwhile, down in AV, Horatio and Eric are doing the same search.
Horatio: (studying the information on the screen) Eric, do you see what I see?
Eric: Yeah. These guys both worked out of the warehouse at the port. They were Sarnov’s shipping crew, with Kasparov.
Dave: (working the controls) Here’s another connection- last known address. (printing the information) I’ll call you if I find more.
Eric: Thanks, Dave.
Horatio: (taking the printouts) Let’s go. (walks out with Eric)

In the club parking lot, Stetler gives the information to Sergei and Nikolai.

Sergei: What have you found?
Stetler: There’s three possible who would want to keep the records to themselves.
Sergei: Who are they?
Stetler: Gregor Kasparov, Dimitri Lukova and Maksim Roednskaya. Since Kasparov is dead, that leaves Lukova and Rodenskaya. (holds out the folder)
Sergei: (taking the file) We’ll take if from here.
Stetler: Fine.

As Stetler heads back to PD, Horatio and Eric arrive at Yelina’s.

Eric: (studying the printouts) So these guys- Lukova and Rodenskaya- they were in on the plan to kill Ivan?
Horatio: Gregor wasn’t smart enough to plan that himself. I think at least one of them is behind Ivan’s murder.
Eric: So how do we prove it? And how do we prove that Stetler’s in league with Nikolai?
Horatio: Yelina thinks she’ll recognize them. She’ll help with the IDs.
Eric: And Stetler?
Horatio: We wait for his next move.

Horatio and Eric get out of the Hummer just as Yelina comes out the front door. In the driveway, Ray Jr. is detailing her car. Eric goes to Yelina while Horatio stops next to Ray Jr.

Yelina: Hello, Eric.
Eric: Hey. You got a minute?
Yelina: (smiling and looking at Horatio) For you? I can spare more than a minute. (stopping at the edge of the porch)
Eric: (holds out the printouts) Recognize them?
Horatio: (to Ray Jr., who slides under the car) Hey, Ray.
Ray Jr.: Hi, Uncle Horatio. (trying to detach Stetler’s tracking device and struggling) Damn! This thing’s on good!
Horatio: What’ve you got, Ray? (looking into the wheel well)
Ray Jr.: I don’t know, but it’s really stuck!
Yelina: (studying the printouts) I definitely recognize both of them. (pointing at Rodenskaya) This one was very cruel.
Horatio: (walking from the Hummer with a field kit back to Yelina’s car) Eric.
Eric: (walking over to Horatio with Yelina close behind) What is it, H?
Horatio: (pulling on gloves) I think…we have our evidence. (holds up the tracking device)
Eric: (studying the device) H, that’s one of ours. (grabbing a pair of gloves and an evidence bag) This could explain how the Russians knew where she’d be- (bags the device and takes the kit back to the Hummer)
Horatio: And how he got in contact with Nikolai. (phone rings; answering) Caine.
Dave: (split screen) Lieutenant, someone else was looking for the same files that I pulled for you. I got a system alert when they hit a firewall.
Horatio: What firewall?
Dave: Some of these files were sealed by Interpol- part of an ongoing case. I got in because of my friend in Interpol, but whoever tried to breach the firewall set of an internal alarm here in the lab.
Horatio: Can you pin it down in the building?
Dave: I’m trying to right now. Lieutenant…whoever set off the alarm…They still managed to get some of the information.
Horato: Track the breach. (hangs up; to Eric) Stetler knows who we’re looking for. (runs to the Hummer, followed by Eric)

Back at the lab, Dave continues to track the breach.

Dave: (to himself) C’mon, sucker. Where the hell did you come from?
Mackenzie: (walking in with a big smile) Hey. Guess who- (noting Dave’s intensity over the controls) What’s up?
Dave: Interpol firewall breach attempt. (to himself) Almost there.
Mackenzie: (checking the screen with worry) Please tell me you’re not the one who breached…
Dave: I’m not, but someone in the building is. (typing furiously) C’mon damn it! (system pings, and a schematic of the building comes up) Gotcha! (doing a double take on the hack location) What the…
Mackenzie: (staring at the screen) Is that…? (Dave nods) Son of a -
Dave: Yeah. (pulling out phone and dialing) Eric? I don’t know if you’re gonna believe this…
Eric: (on the phone; split screen) It was Stetler, wasn’t it?
Dave: (confused) Yeah. How’d you-
Eric: Thanks, Dave. (hangs up)

As Horatio and Eric head to the listed address for Lukova and Rodenskaya, Sergei and Nikolai pull into the driveway of the seemingly abandoned house.
Eric drives as Horatio makes a call to Frank for backup.

Frank: (answering) Tripp.
Horatio: Frank, get a patrol unit and meet me. I’ll text you the address.
Frank: What’s goin’ on, Horatio?
Horatio: Sarnov’s killers are about to become victims themselves if we don’t stop Nikolai.
Frank: (on the move) How’d Nikolai find ‘em?
Horatio: (disappointedly) The information came from Rick. (pause) He’s the leak, Frank.
Frank: (in disbelief) You’re sure?
Horatio: Without a doubt.
Frank: (tapping a patrol cop) We’re on our way.

Back at the lab, Ryan walks into AV and finds Dave and Kenzie still in shock.

Ryan: (seeing Mackenzie) Hey, you’re back. How’d- (finally noticing the looks on Mackenzie’s and Dave’s faces) What happened?
Dave: Umm…(speechless)
Mackenzie: (sitting down) It’s…it’s Stetler.
Ryan: (looking back and forth between them) Okay…What about him? (looking at the screen when Mackenzie points at it) What the…
Dave: Exactly.
Ryan: You’re sure? Absolutely positive? (Dave nods) Does H know?
Mackenzie: Yeah. He and Eric were heading to the last known for the guys that put out the order on Sarnov. I hope they’re not too late.
Natalia: (walking in) Who’s too late?
Ryan: H and Eric. They have to stop Nikolai and Sergei from killing Sarnov’s murderers.
Natalia: (Natalia and Ryan’s phones go off; checking the message) We’ve got a callout. Address seems familiar. (keying it in on the work desk) That’s three blocks away from that club front for the Brotherhood.
Mackenzie: What’s the callout for?
Ryan: Body dump.
Mackenzie: Take me with you.
Natalia: Kenzie, your certification-
Mackenzie: I passed. (pulls out certificate) I know I can’t process the scene until I’m cleared by Horatio, but I can ride along. (looking between Ryan and Natalia) I’ll just be an extra set of eyes. There’s no way that a body dump in that area, right now, is a coincidence.
Ryan: All right. Let’s go. (leads the way out)

While Ryan, Natalia and Kenzie head toward the club, Horatio and Eric pull up to their destination and walk toward the front door, guns drawn.

Eric: H, that’s the car from the train yard.
Horatio: So it is. (touching the hood) Still warm.
Eric: So where are they?

Just as the words are out of Eric’s mouth, shouting and swearing are heard inside. In the same moment, Frank and the patrol unit pull up silently behind the Hummer. With a slight gesture, Horatio sends the two patrolmen and Eric to the back of the house while he and Frank flank the front door.
Inside, Sergei and Nikolai have already laid in on Lukova, who is lying bruised, bloody and unconscious in a corner of the living room. Rodenskaya, the source of the yelling and swearing, is tied to a kitchen chair in the middle of the room, already bloody, with Nikolai poised to start carving him with the fillet knife from the butcher’s block in the kitchen.

Sergei: (standing over Lukova; to Maksim) Why did you turn on Ivan, Maksim? What did you get out of it? \
Maksim: (sneering) Ivan grew weak. He did not deserve to lead the Brotherhood.
Nikolai: Svoloch’ (Bastard)! (punches and slices Maksim’s face) You were never worthy of my brother’s respect…even when we were children!
Maksim: (spitting out blood) Your brother was a fool!
Nikolai: Past’ zakroi (Shut it)!

Just as Nikolai is about to strike with the now bloody knife, both the front and back doors are kicked open.

Frank: MDPD! Freeze!
Horatio: (cuffing Nikolai) Hello Nikolai.
Nikolai: Svoloch’ (Bastard)! (struggling with Horatio, but not gaining any ground) Who killed my brother?!
Eric: (after tackling Sergei) You’re under arrest.
Patrol 1: (to Frank, who is guarding Maksim) I’ve got this one, Detective.
Eric: (pulling Sergei to his feet; to Patrol 2) Call an ambulance, and get backup over here.
Frank: (to Maksim) I bet you thought we’d never getchya, huh?
Maksim: Stupid cop!
Frank: (to Patrol 1) Get this scum outta here!
Horatio: (as Patrol 2 takes Nikolai) Now… we get Stetler.

Down the street from the club, Ryan and Natalia are processing the dump site, while Kenzie observes from just beyond the crime scene tape.

Natalia: (taking pictures of the dead body in the dumpster) Hey, what’s Alexx’s ETA?
Ryan: (photographing the rest of the alley) I don’t know. I hope she gets here soon. That guy is really…ripe.
Mackenzie: (spotting something at the edge of a pile of garbage) Hey Ryan. That looks like a wallet.
Ryan: (turning to Mackenzie) Where?
Mackenzie: (pointing) There.
Ryan: (picking it up) You’re right. It is a wallet. (flips it open; sees the dead body’s ID) Okay, this is just way too weird.
Natalia: (coming over) Why? Who is it?
Ryan: It’s Dumpster Guy. (turns it to show both Natalia and Mackenzie) Victor Slovanovic.
Natalia: (taking the wallet and rooting through it again) Hey. There’s another ID in here.
Ryan: Is it the same guy?
Natalia: No. It’s…(showing Ryan)
Ryan: That’s the vic from the warehouse fire!
Mackenzie: (figuring it out) Guys, your vic in the dumpster is the guy that torched the warehouse.
Natalia: What?!
Ryan: What makes you say that?
Mackenzie: Well, he’s got the warehouse vic’s ID. And Cal’s recorder caught the voice of a guy before he lit the match. Eric’s got Cal’s recorder- he was bringing it to the lab.
Ryan: (as Alexx pulls into the alley) So…if this is the firebug-
Natalia: (looking at Ryan) Who wanted him dead?

At the lab, Horatio questions Nikolai in one room while Eric questions Sergei in another.

Horatio: We know what you did and why you did it.
Nikolai: Then why am I here and not in one of your cells?
Horatio: Because you can help us.
Nikolai: (sneering) Why would I help you?
Horatio: Because helping us get a dirty cop makes your life easier.
Eric: So who were you getting information from?
Sergei: Why would I tell you?
Eric: (smirking) You got played, and you don’t even realize it.
Sergei: (smugly) What makes you say that?
Eric: You needed inside information to get to the woman you kidnapped.
Nikolai: Why should I believe you?
Horatio: Because your “informant” used you for his own agenda.
Nikolai: What are you saying?
Eric: Your contact had you believing, from the beginning, that Lieutenant Caine killed Sarnov, didn’t he?
Sergei: (shocked) How did you…?
Eric: (smirking) I bet you didn’t even ask how he managed to get the information you wanted.
Horatio: Nikolai, I can’t help you if you don’t help me. And I know the truth about your brother’s death.
Nikolai: He said that you did it. You shot my brother!
Horatio: (nodding) Yes, I shot Ivan…but he was already dying- and he knew it.
Nikolai: What are you saying? Chyort voz’mi (Damn it)!
Horatio: The men you confronted today are responsible for Ivan’s death.
Eric: (smugly) Lieutenant Caine gave Ivan back his honor.

After some reservations:
Nikolai: The svoloch’ (Bastard) you want…
Sergei: The bastard cop…
Nikolai and Sergei: Is Stetler.

Down in the morgue, Alexx has just started working on Victor when Ryan comes in with Kenzie.

Ryan: Hey Alexx.
Alexx: (barely looking up as she makes the ‘Y’ incision) Hi Ryan, Kenzie.
Ryan: How long do you think this guy’s been in that alley, Alexx?
Alexx: No more than a day.
Mackenzie: Cause of death was the slit throat, right?
Alexx: (looking up at Mackenzie in surprise) Well, aren’t we Miss Studious, baby? (smiling) Yes, he bled out when the carotid was severed. And…(checking the neck wound) I don’t think he saw it coming.
Ryan: (jokingly under his breath to Mackenzie) Show off.
Alexx: There aren’t any defensive wounds either.
Mackenzie: (ignoring Ryan) That means he was attacked from behind-
Ryan: Or he knew and trusted his killer.
Alexx: (nodding and smiling) A’s for both of you. However, there was some trace under his nails. (handing Ryan an envelope)
Ryan: Thanks, Alexx. (heads out; Mama starts to follow)
Alexx: Kenzie?
Mackenzie: (stops and faces Alexx) Yes, ma’am?
Alexx: I hear congratulations are in order. Good job, Baby Girl.
Mackenzie: (beaming) Thanks, Alexx.
Alexx: (turning back to her task) Now go on. Go catch the bad guy.
Mackenzie: (laughing) You got it.

Natalia is just getting started on checking for prints on the wallet when Eric walks in with the tracking device from Yelina’s car.

Eric: Hey Natalia. You got a minute?
Natalia: Umm…sure. (looks up) What’s up?
Eric: (putting the bagged device on the table) I need this checed for prints…but I can’t do it myself.
Natalia: (confused) Why can’t you do it?
Eric: Conflict of interest. (Natalia continues to look confused) H and I think Stetler planted it.
Natalia: (catching on) You found this…?
Eric: H found it- on Yelina’s car.
Natalia: (nodding) Okay. I’ll get on it. (taking the device) How’d it go with Nikolai and Sergei?
Eric: They signed statements that Stetler was feeding them information. If we’re right, and Stetler’s prints are on that device, H is taking all of the evidence and their statements to the chief. Natalia: Okay. (remembering the recorder) Oh, by the way, do you have Calleigh’s recorder? Kenzie said you were bringing it in.
Eric: Dave has it. He’s trying to clean out the background noise- the rustling from it recording while she had it in her pocket. Why?
Natalia: Kenzie is almost positive that the body dump Ryan and I took her to is the torch from the warehouse.
Eric: Really?
Natalia: Yeah. (gestures to the wallet she’d been working on) We…Well, Kenzie found our vic’s wallet. There were two IDs in it- our vic’s, and one that matches the composite Dave and Ryan did on the warehouse vic.
Eric: Wait- Kenzie did a ride along with you? I thought-
Natalia: She took the test…and passed. (smiling) She’ll officially be a member of the team as soon as Horatio and the chief clear it.
Eric: Wow. (speechless)
Natalia: Anyway, do you think Cal is up to coming in to verify our vic’s ID?
Eric: Yeah. (computer beeps) What’d you get?
Natalia: (turning the screen) You and Horatio were right. (printing the results) I guess this means Horatio has a meet with the chief.
Eric: (on the phone) H, we’ve got him.
Horatio: (split screen) I’ve already set up a meeting with the chief. Is Calleigh up to coming in?
Eric: I’ll have my mom drop her off. What time is the meeting?
Horatio: In two hours. (hangs up)

Down in AV, Kenzie walks in to find Dave muttering to himself.

Dave: (working the controls) Almost there. Just a little bit more…
Mackenzie: Hey.
Dave: (startled) Hey.
Mackenzie: (looking at the work desk) You still tryin’ to clean up the audio on Cal’s recorder?
Dave: Yeah. Almost got it, though.
Mackenzie: Did you hear? Horatio and Eric found the tracking device on Yelina’s car. It had Stetler’s prints all over it.
Dave: (shocked) Really? So what are they gonna do now?
Mackenzie: Horatio got a meeting with the chief at the end of shift.

Out in the parking lot, Carmen and Calleigh have just pulled up. Eric is walking toward them.
Calleigh: (to Carmen) Thank you for the ride. I don’t know why he insisted on you dropping me off-
Carmen: (smiling) It wasn’t any trouble, mi hija.
Eric: (opening Calleigh’s door) Hello beautiful. (leaning in to see Carmen) Thank you for bringing Cal down, Mom. I know it’s out of your way-
Carmen: (scolding) Absurdo (Nonsense)! I had fun today, and I need to pick something up for your father anyway. (as Eric helps Calleigh out of the car) You two come to dinner at home soon, yeah?
Calleigh: That sounds great. Thank you for…(with a “look” at Eric) keeping me “company” today.
Carmen: (smiling) My pleasure, mi hija.
Eric: Thanks again, Mom. (closes the door and waves as Carmen drives away; to Calleigh) I’m in trouble, aren’t I?
Calleigh: (nudging him with a slight smile) You should be. Having your mother babysit me- Ha! (sees the guilty look on Eric’s face) But I know you meant well. (hugging him) So you’re off the hook- for now.
Eric: (grinning) Thank God. (checks watch) I think we have enough time for you to ID Ryan and Natalia’s vic before we meet H. Ready?
Calleigh: Yeah.

Back in AV, Dave has finally finished cleaning up Calleigh’s recorder.

Dave: That’s as good as it’s gonna get- not bad if I do say so myself.
Playback: I only follow orders- you must die! I kill you and Petrovski will let me live. I won’t end up like Mikhail.
Mackenzie: Great. Now the question is- who is Petrovski?
Dave: Actually…I can answer that. (burning the playback to a disc)
Mackenzie: (surprised) Really?
Dave: It was in the Interpol files I got access to. “Petrovski” is the surname of one of Nikolai’s many aliases.
Mackenzie: You mean…?
Dave: Nikolai Sarnov used an alias to get into the country.
Mackenzie: (thinking aloud) He didn’t want the “welcome committee” to know that he was stateside. So only those loyal to Sarnov would know who he really was.
Dave: That’s what I’m thinking.
Mackenzie: Okay. (grabs the recorder and disc) Let’s get this to Horatio.

Meanwhile, Eric and Calleigh have just reached the morgue.

Alexx: (looking up as Eric and Calleigh walk in) Hey, you two. (studying Calleigh) You’re lookin’ better, Baby Girl. How are ya feelin’?
Calleigh: (smiling) Much better, Alexx. Thank you.
Eric: Natalia asked if Cal could ID their dumpster guy.
Alexx: She just called. He’s in Drawer 2. (gestures with a nod) No next of kin as far as we can tell, and no one’s comin’ forward- so he’s headed for a county burial.
Calleigh: Thanks, Alexx.
Eric: (poised to open the drawer; to Calleigh) You ready?
Calleigh: Yeah. (Eric opens the drawer, pulls out the slab and folds back the sheet) That’s him.
Eric: Okay. (covers the body again)
Calleigh: He looked so terrified in that warehouse- so alone.
Eric: (taking her hand) We should go.
Alexx: Good luck.
Eric: Thanks, Alexx.

In the lab, Natalia has just gotten the results on the wallet.

Natalia: (looking at the screen; slightly surprised) Well, I guess this nails the coffin on them.
Ryan: (walking in) Hey. What’d you get?
Natalia: This definitely belonged to our dumpster guy. And you won’t believe all the different prints I lifted. (turning the screen toward Ryan) The two that killed Sarnov left prints on it, too- and on the dumpster we dug our vic out of.
Ryan: That’s two counts of murder in the first-
Natalia: On top of the gun running and drug charges.
Ryan: I’ll get the file to Talbot.

In the reception area outside the chief’s office, Horatio waits for Eric and Calleigh. Stetler walks in.

Stetler: (smug and sarcastic) Horatio.
Horatio: (calmly) Rick.
Debra: The Chief will see you now, Rick. (Stetler goes into Chief’s office; quietly) God, he’s a jerk.

Horatio overhears Debra’s last comment and smiles his agreement.
Inside, the chief is organizing his paperwork as Stetler enters.

Chief: Have a seat, Rick.
Stetler: Thank you, sir. (sitting down)
Chief: Let’s just get down to it, shall we? (Stetler nods) I’ve finished going over the current fraternization policy, and your suggested revisions, with the unit heads. (studying Stetler) We’ve decided, unanimously, that the current policy no longer needs MDPD’s requirements. Don’t you agree?
Stetler: Certainly, sir.
Chief: I thought so. However, your various revisions to the policy are of no use to the department, either.
Stetler: Than- I’m sorry, sir?
Chief: The fraternization policy has been deemed outdated, and dropped. There hasn’t been a need for it in the department in over…(checking the file; very pointedly) five years.
Stetler: But sir-
Chief: The official memorandum goes out on Monday. (intercom beeps) Yes, Debra?
Debra: Your last appointment is here, sir.
Chief: Thank you. Send them in. (to Stetler as he starts to stand) You can stay. I think you’d like to hear the outcome of my next meeting…(pauses as the door opens and Horatio enters, followed by Eric, Calleigh and Frank; Frank closes the door) first hand.
Stetler: It’s a bit crowded, sir. I’ll just- (standing and heading for the door)
Chief: SIT DOWN, SERGEANT! (Stetler returns to his chair)
Horatio: (handing a file to Chief) Some last minute results, sir.
Chief: (looking over the file; stopping on the results for the tracking device) Is this conclusive, Horatio?
Horatio: Yes, sir.
Chief: (resigned; closing the file) Shall we proceed then? (no answers) All right. (to Stetler) It’s been brought to my attention, Rick, that not only have you aided a Russian gangster in some vendetta against Lieutenant Caine and his CSIs, but you’ve abused your privileges as a police officer to do so.
Stetler: I beg your pardon-
Chief: (staring Stetler) I’d choose my next words wisely if I were you, Rick.
Stetler: I don’t know what you’re talking about, sir.
Chief: Horatio? (nodding for Horatio to take over)
Horatio: We have your prints, Rick. (pulling out a photo of the tracking device) Not only do we have your prints on this device, found on Detective Yelina Salas’ vehicle, (pulling out photos of the device on Yelina’s car) but we have signed statements from Nikolai Sarnov and Sergei Gorgonov that describe, in detail, how you searched them out and offered your “services”.
Stetler: (to Chief) Sir, I don’t know anything about any of this.
Chief: (pulling out the trace report on the firewall hit) Then explain to me why you did a search on members of the Russian Brotherhood and tried to gain access to files sealed by Interpol, Rick.
Stetler: I…I…
Chief: (livid) Exactly! You CAN’T! Not only did you do the search- on your own office computer- but you didn’t even know you hit a firewall! (showing Stetler Dave’s report) The breach was traced back to your office, to a computer that you pass coded. What do you take me for?!
Stetler: (finally getting angry) I did what I had to do! (standing and leaning across Chief’s desk) I’m sick of being sidelined because of some unspoken favoritism between you and Lieutenant Horatio Caine!
Chief: (shocked) What the hell are you talkin’ about?
Stetler: You promoted him over me, gave him the CSI lab- when I should’ve been first in line for it. You made me ride a desk! And now- you allow his team to do whatever they damn well please!

Stetler suddenly seems to change tactic and reaches down toward his gun. In a split second, Eric and Frank leap into action. Eric holds Stetler in place while Frank takes his badge and gun before cuffing him.

Frank: Rick Stetler, you are under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to kidnapping, accessory to attempted murder, accessory to kidnapping, destruction of private property, and a whole lot more than I care to say…(continues the Miranda as he leads Stetler down to booking)
Chief: (sitting again; taking a deep breath) Well. That was…I’m at a loss for words. (to Horatio) How did you know?
Horatio: I think, sir…that it was just a matter of time.

Later, the gang meets up at Crosby’s.

Natalia: (to Eric and Calleigh) So, how’d it go with the chief? The only buzz we got in the lab was that Stetler was arrested.
Eric: There’s a solid case. He couldn’t even begin to worm his way out of the numerous charges against him.
Mackenzie: (standing next to Dave) But what about the department policy?
Calleigh: The official memo goes out Monday, but- (smiling at Eric) the fraternization policy has been deemed useless, and dropped.
Ryan: That’s fantastic!
Eric: And…(looking at Mackenzie) We officially have a new CSI in our midst. (applause all around)
Natalia: I propose a toast. (lifts glass) To the best team anyone could ever hope to be part of.
Calleigh: (lifting her glass of ginger ale) And to the newest addition to the team.
Eric/Ryan/Dave: (raising glasses) Cheers!

At the opposite end of the bar, Horatio and the Chief quietly observe the impromptu celebration of the CSIs.
Chief: (watching as Eric puts a loving and protective arm around Calleigh’s waist) I really hope you’re right about this, Horatio.
Horatio: (smiling slightly as he watches his team) If there are people that can make this work…it’s them.

Five months later, at the Federal Correctional Complex in Coleman, Florida:
Guard: Inmate Number 7838537, Richard James Stetler, yard time. Let’s go!

Stetler is led out of his cell and out into the recreation yard. Once the guard leaves, he is left alone until the gate opens again silently.

Sergei: Look who’s here.
Nikolai: Hello Stetler.

Stetler freezes instantly, hoping that the people behind him are figments of his imagination.

Nikolai: What- no greeting for your “associates”?
Stetler: (turning to face Nikolai and Sergei) How did you get in here?
Sergei: (smirking) Surely you already know the answer to that. (stepping towards Stetler, making him back up against the fence in the corner, just out of camera range).
Nikolai: I believe we owe you a great deal, Stetler.
Stetler: No…no…You don’t owe me anything.
Sergei: No, I’m pretty sure we do owe you- for your “help”.
Stetler: Really, there’s…There’s no need.
Nikolai: Sergei, maybe he is right. (slowly digging in his pocket)
Sergei: He could be…(contemplating) Our agreement was for dealing with Caine and avenging Ivan.
Nikolai: On the other hand…(whirling and shanking Stetler deep in the abdomen with a filed toothbrush handle) The deal became void- (leaning in to whisper in Stetler’s ear and twisting the shank) when I learned that Caine had nothing to do with my brother’s death! (shanking Stetler again repeatedly in the sides)
Sergei: (taking hold of Nikolai and pulling him away from Stetler) Nikolai, let’s go! The guard is coming back!

Federal Warden: (on the phone; split screen) He’s in critical condition. The doctor said he’ll never walk again- if he ever comes out of the coma that the trauma put in him.
Chief: (resigned) What happens now?
Federal Warden: The Russians were picked up by Interpol. It’s out of our hands.
Chief: (hesitantly) Thank you- for the update.
