All I can say to you on this is I am proud to be an American, and I proud to know so many that serve or have served- whether it be classmates, friends or family (and I have some in all three categories). Our service members, and ANYONE who decides it is their calling to serve community, state or nation, deserves a HUGE Thank You!

They are the reason we have a freedom, and most likely our lives. If you know a service member, give them a hug for me :) Do you find this valuable? |

"Freedom? You've never read the PATRIOT Act, which crapped all over the 4th Amendment."Okay, I have to agree with you there. But I also agree with CSIMC. Without those that serve, whether it be as a soldier, or as police/firefighter/paramedic, etc., the country would be really bleak, IMO. As I said in my first post, I know quite a few people that have served- at various levels and in various uniforms. They are the ones that have fought to make sure that we have the ability to make our laws, rather than have them made for and forced on us. Do you find this valuable? |

Every other conflict we've been involved in has been a farce. I don't fault our soldiers/airmen/Marines, but we live in a security state. We have 5% of the world's population, and 25% of the world's prisoners. We execute people who are most assuredly innocent. So much for freedom. As to firefighters, paramedics, and most police officers, they're my heroes. Teachers, too. Do you find this valuable? |

As to your last comment- they're my heroes too! Do you find this valuable? |

You know, I received a bracelet after 9/11. My aunt bought it, and the funds from the sales were going into a fund to help support the families of the first responders, etc. of the Two Towers. There was a bracelet made for every one of them that didn't make it out, and the bracelets were packaged with a certificate that told you something about this particular person. They also gave you the option of having that person's name engraved on the back of the bracelet. My aunt had mine engraved, and the guy that my bracelet was for was a firefighter. The certificate doesn't really say much about the person except to say what profession they were in and where they were stationed. I did some research on my guy and discovered that he left behind a wife and three children- 2 girls and a boy. I'm really glad that I, in some convoluted way, had a small part in helping that family make it through the last 10 years. And I've added a few places to my list of places and things to visit: The 9/11 memorials at Ground Zero and the Pentagon, and the Brooklyn Wall. Do you find this valuable? |
